Man, I'm excited about our D especially our line, especially Orakpo! Our Backups could probably be starters for 1/2 the teams in the NFL.

Re: Palermo talks versatility.

WE now have depth at DT & pending the play of Rak & Jackson, Wynn & Daniels, we might have some depth at DE. I'm hesitant to say that DE is a deep position at this point though.

There's also Lorenzo Alexander slimmed down.

I hope its not just coachspeak, b/c statements like these get amped!

Palermo: "I think a lot depends on holes more than it does anything else. I think we're a good fundamental defensive line; we obviously need to get more production as far as pressure and sacks go and I think those will come. I also think that we have to remain a good run defense."

Palermo: "I think on first downs and second downs, depending on down and distance, you do. I think third down is where I've gotta do a better job and where our players've gotta do a better job. On third down we're turning it loose now. We've gotta make things happen and they've got to happen quicker, and I think Albert will help that situation tremendously."

Is Montgomery not favorable over Golston? The way the coach talks about him it sounds like he is underachieving.

That's pretty much always been the story with Monty.

Golston on the other hand is a classic overachiever and that's why coaches like him.

Most keep forgetting the major injuries we had on the line last year right off the bat. A healthy line this year will be fun to watch.

Re: Palermo talks versatility.

Defensive end was the only major injury i remember on the line last year. I like our depth. Even having a vet like Wynn means he won't be in over his head if he's called into action. That is the luxury of even having veterans. Low upside, yet never in over there heads. I love the potential that i see in our front seven.

Re: Palermo talks versatility.

Lol, technically we got 7 potential 53 man guys that can play DT right now (Grif, Haynesworth, Monty, Kedric, Wynn, Daniels, Alexander)

I have a feeling/prediction ...I think that griffin will be cut and monty and golston will fight it out for the other starting spot, I think this will happen, because griffins older and injured/ missed a few games the past two years, and I feel that I don't hear the coaches talk about him that much...just a prediction plus we have two of the same backups behind him, and lorenzo...who would you all say is better between golston and Montgomery?

I believe Monty is better...just not always full go...needs external motivation, Gholston does not.

No way they cut Griffin...that guy is arguably our best D lineman last year
Carter can be exposed on sweeps to his side. Daniels didn't play...then you only have to compete with the other 2 tackles.

Re: Palermo talks versatility.

I'm gonna have to agree on this one. Griffin is the heart of the D-Line. Playing in short burst he can best be utilized. The RT position is going to be a fight. 1year contracts are usually a good motivation.

I'm expecting a lot from our defense this year. I'm pretty psyched!

Re: Palermo talks versatility.

Unless Monty becomes a monster overnight I'd say Griff is pretty safe.

I couldn't disagree with you more about Griffin's role. Haynesworth is exactly what Griffin needed to free him up to make more big plays. He will start next to AH.

Right now, today, frequently injured or not, Griffin is a better DT than either Montgomery or Golston.
