NFL Network coming back to COMCAST

This from the Sports Business Journal, although it specifically mentions COMCAST, it has the capability to affect all major cable providers. We could see NFLN on every cable provider this fall:

"The NFL Network deal would be much more surprising, given the public acrimony between the NFL and Comcast over the past year. Sources said the NFL dropped its 70-cent per subscriber license fee significantly in order to get digital-basic penetration, the same tier that houses MLB Network. Though a deal hasn’t been signed, sources said Comcast would not take equity in the network.

Sources credit Comcast CEO Brian Roberts and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for providing the impetus behind getting a deal so close. A digital-basic Comcast deal would account for more than 10 million homes, pushing total carriage for the network to more than 40 million homes.

But just as important for the NFL is that once Comcast, the nation’s largest cable operator, cuts a deal, that other cable operators generally will fall in line.

The status of both sets of negotiations is certain to be a topic of discussion at the NFL owners spring meeting this week.

What channel are we talking about again?

In all seriousness, This is great news. I switched to cable for the internet package to save money and lost NFL network by dropping Directtv. I haven't watched much TV since. Maybe thats a good thing.

I refused to buy it in the past, but if what the article says is true, then you won't have to. As long as you have digital basic, you'll get the channel...

It's official now. NFL Network is moving to a Digital Classic tier on Comcast. 10 year agreement I believe.

Digital Classic/Digital Basic are interchangeable I think. Essentially, if you have any sort of digital cable, you will have NFL Network. If you have basic or basic extended (Channels 2-99), then Digital Classic/Basic is the next step up.

Re: NFL Network coming back to COMCAST

I sent my cable company an email and this was the response:

Quote:
I know we have been looking at that channel and would like to add it. We have been in contact with them and are trying to reach an agreement. I do not know if we will reach an agreement or when we would add it if we do. We would more than likely put out an ad or some sort of notice if we do add that channel. Please feel free to contact us anytime to check and also visit our website for additional information.
So Basically, I don't know anything more than I know before I sent an email. I think My company is a division of Time Warner but I could be wrong.

Does this mean the $5/month fee they charge me for the NFL Network will stop? OR are they just gonna jack up my the fees I pay for the basic service?

Re: NFL Network coming back to COMCAST

I am stoked to be getting the Red Zone channel when it finally comes down the pike. I don't think we'll see it this coming season but supposedly in the next few years it'll find a spot on Comcast's lineup. That's pretty cool.
