Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
Now that the Cutler and JC trade talk is over. Let's try to reflect on some good times, and discuss why we chose to be a fan of the Redskins
For me personally it was a family tradition, it was what we claimed as our football birthright. As kids, we did everthing to emulate our favorite Skins players. Also, I liked the way they played "Redskins brand" of football. It was very blue collar, and hard nosed. It wasn't fancy, nor was it flashy. They just went out and took you behind the wood shed and beat the piss out of you. And it didn't hurt any to have the greatest sports rivalry with the much hated cowboys. What say you?

I always thought that people rooted for their hometown team, I guess things have changed.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
It's not something you choose, it's something that chooses you.
I honestly believe that. You can't "choose" to be a fan of a team. You're just drawn to them for some reason, and if you're a real fan you feel a passionate connection that you can't get away from, no matter how many losses they ring up.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
I started liking the skins back in 89 because i knew one day that there would be a website where i would have to defend the owner and explain to others that the lawn isn't always greener on the other side.

Same here, my dad loves the Cowboys, so i like the Skins. He likes the Mets and i like the Orioles. But i guess i like the Orioles because Mussina's mom worked with my gram and i got to meet him a bunch and go to some games in his seats.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
Born at Georgetown University Hospital in DC, raised in NW DC, grew up going to games at RFK during the glory years of the late 80's early 90's... The rest is history. I love them and always will.
They were the first team I ever became a real fan of, followed shortly after by the Bullets, Caps, and Orioles. 2009 is the 10th anniversary of my love affair with my Florida Gators, and I must say, they have definitely moved up to 2nd in my heart just behind the Redskins. Cut me today and I may bleed burgundy and gold. Cut me tomorrow and I will probably bleed orange and blue.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
I've been a hardcore Redskins fan since 1971, have been through good times, bad times, great times and dysfunctional times. I will never stop being a Redskins fan (this is for life) but I tell you what, it's been pretty challenging since Dan Snyder took ownership. My love for this team is like a family member and even if I'm 3,000 miles away and 27 years removed from the Maryland DC area, I will never ever stop loving this team. My hope is that good times will come again and I know they will, my patience has been tested many times lately and I'm hoping that I and many fans like myself will be rewarded soon.
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS, HAIL VICTORY!!

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
So I notice you were born in Florida but you currently reside in Norman, OK. Who were you cheering for when the Gators beat "Big Game" Bob Stoops and the Sooners in January?

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
I love this team but I really don't care for the owner or Vinny C. As Sfredskin fan said, they're like family. I can remember in 1977 when I was 7 years old and they started off 6-0 and ended up not making the playoffs. They were the hometown team and that's how it started for me. I've lived in the DC area my whole life so I follow this team closely.

Re: Why you chose to be a Redskins fan:
It was either the Redskins or Broadway Musicals and I chose the Redskins. Do I ever regret my decision? Sometimes on opening nights, I ponder whistfully what might have been, but I've made my bed...
