What would it take to get Lechler

OK Placks gone so now what?

On Wednesday, Raiders owner Al Davis said one thing was certain: Keeping both Pro Bowlers will not be easy.

"We've got a tough problem with Nnamdi and Lechler, a tough problem," Davis said. "They're both unsigned and you only have one franchise designation. I'm not resigned to anything, but I say it's tough."

IMO Nnamdi gets the tag. Making Lechler a FA. If thats the case,
1) Should we go after him?
2) What would it take to get him here?

RAIDERS / Lechler's Oakland days appear over

Re: What would it take to get Lechler

I really would love to see some serious thought put into upgrading the special teams, specifically the kicking positions. I really think you can plug guys into almost any position on special teams (even if you have to put in a couple starters), but the four positions you need to have some good talent at are Punter, Kicker, Long Snapper and Kick Returners...

Our kickoff returner and long snapper are phenomenal.... I think we need someone other than Randel El returning punts, but I think we have guys on the team who can fill the role, so whatever...

However it boggles my mind how we've ignored the kicker/punter positions for so long...I would love to see a guy like Lechler brought in here and I would love to see a legitimate, proven kicker brought in. Its just so damn frustrating seeing games kicked away with poor special teams...Honestly if we just brought some youth to the lines and upgraded the special teams, I'd be very happy with the offseason.

Re: What would it take to get Lechler

According to the report Lechler made 1.5 million last year and to tag him would cost the Raiders 2.483 million. He's 32 years old and will be 33 in August. I would offer him a 4 year deal for 10 million with some sort of bonus.

Re: What would it take to get Lechler

I think that there are several factors that will nab us Lechler.

(1) Dan Snyder's deep pockets.
(2) A private ride on Dan Snyder's private jet from Oakland to Washington.
(3) We're a better record than The Raiders and will next season barring a miracle or Al Davis dropping dead.
(4) The Redskins's locker room is a hell of a lot better than Oaklands.
(5) I doubt that one of our DTs will punch him in the face.
(6) He'll be a lot cheaper than Haynesworth and worth every penny.
(7) Did I mention Dan Snyder's deep pockets and private jet?

He'll be fine as long as he doesn't piss off Santana.
And don't forget Dan Snyders deep pockets and private jet!

Santana only punches people when they have they're helmet on.

I think we have a serious chance to get Lechler and should go after him hard. Our ST's have been less than impressive for far too long.

Maybe if we didnt need to punt so much we wouldn't need a Probowl punter.

Re: What would it take to get Lechler

The more I think about it, the more I think Lechler should be our #1 priority as far as FA's are concerned.

Re: What would it take to get Lechler

i'd like lechler here. to be honest, a pro bowl punter could have a bigger impact on our W & Ls than any other FA out there given we are in a "2 years to rebuild O line" status. add in he will cost around 2 mil a year and it makes sense for our "lets not break the bank on any 1 player since we are not any 1 player away" approach . . sorry for the quotations.

go skins!!

We need to get him, this way we don't waste a draft pick on a punter and can use it for an extra lineman

While I know that this post is lacking in complete logic (intentionally I'm sure) it cracked me the hell up.

Ever heard of the term "field position battle"? Atlanta decided to franchise their punter, b/c he did a helluva job helping Atlanta win the field position battle. Any team needs good special team players, and being that the NFC is hyper competitive, I don't see anything wrong with going for a guy like Lechler. Now getting him alone is not going to change EVERYTHING, the team will still need to address other areas.

Re: What would it take to get Lechler

i say yes. wouldn't really be that expensive. and its been ages since we had a good, consistent punter. for that thought, its been ages since we have had a good consistent kicker

Re: What would it take to get Lechler

I'm also buying into the thought that getting Lechler should be our main priority in FA, not a OLinemen. Our offensive woes are likely to continue so next year so a punter who can pin the opponent deep in their own territory will be more effective overall than spending big $$$ on Gross or Haynesworth.
