Gameplan: NY

hey Matty. i think you should add an official PostGame thoughts and official GamePlan for next opponent threads along with the official Game thread in these boards and make them temporarily sticky. just to consolidate a little.

now that the fog of war is settling, we gotta plan just like Gibbs and The Supreme Court (our fogey assistant coaches) are doing.

whatever you say about the Giants, they have MUCH better receivers than Tampa. Amani Toomer has given more trouble to the 'Skins than any other receiver in recent history. our secondary will be tested again like in the Rams preseason game. hopefully Williams blitzes 'for real' this time but relies more on the LBs and leaves our safeties (Bowen, Williams made a man outta you) in to defend more. ST should be out there for this game, keeping an eye on Shockey, and knocking the ball loose from Hilliard, Toomer, and well Barber.

offensively, we gotta execute a LOT better. Coles can't be quiet for this game, we gotta finish off the rest of any self-esteem Will Allen may have left over from the Owens bitching. the Oline needs to polish up a good start, giving even more time to Brunell (yes no sacks, but too many hurries/hits) and make better holes against 8man fronts for Portis. yes that's asking a lot from this Oline, but this is the product of Gibbs and Bugel here, and the pressure is all on them. c'mon DirtBags. can we at least see that whole snap thing at 100%? Strahan will be a big test for Kenyatta Jones.

Special Teams gotta lotta work to do this week. can't leave everything to Bowen! (or the kicker!)

I think if we blitz NY well, there shouldn't be many long passing plays. They simply won't have enough time to get it off. I expect to see some of the short 5-7 yard dumpoffs. TB had some success with this against us.

I don't think it will be a Strahan vs Jones contest - atleast not on plays where the QB is expected to sit in the pocket. I think it will be more like Strahan vs Jones & Rasby.

The Bucs D is a lot better than the Giants'. I expect to see better play (ie bigger plays) from our offensive weapons this game.

Tampa never figured out what Washington was doing on those Blitz packages. NY is worse then Tampa is at stopping the Blitz. So I'd watch the game film from last week on NY & prepare to attack their weaknesses!

Toomer is good, but when you have no time to read the D & make an accurate throw you lose :FIREdevil

I'm predicting the Skins will be 2 - 0 winning the game 27 - 10.

yeah you nailed it right on the head. those dump offs and screens seem to have been a big problem for the 'Skins FOREVER. it's gonna be interesting to see how Williams does against these as they are pretty much are the answer to the blitz. Antonio Pierce will be KEY in getting to either sideline, (thats why Williams needs speed, re. K.Mitchell) and hopefully LavarCus (Washrrington?) can recover quick enough from any missed backfield intrusions.

good point about Strahan. Jones will definitely get some help because Brunell won't be lookin at Strahan since he's a lefty. would be great if we saw Cooley do some damage this game, catching and blocking.

Ball control is the key in this one. Keep the ball out of Shockey's hands as he has just absolutely killed us the past 2 years. I think Taylor will be brought onto the field to cover Shockey on 3rd downs.

Look for a heavy dose of Portis left behind Dockery and Samuels on a weak right defensive front for the Midgets.

ST must come to play as this is a division game and wins just don't come easy but a loss surely can be handed by not playing well in all three phases.

Thanks ill, that is a good idea. And Matty, thanks for considering it.

1. No doubt NY's WR's are better. But - both QB's are gonna get flustered by a pressure defense and, as one Skin said, it's all about disguising the pressure. Whether it's safeties, corners or LB's - the blitzes need to be disguised and the remaining defenders disciplined. Neither, I think will be a problem for the defense.

2. As for the Offense, this will not be TBays defense. The DB's and LB's are simply not as good. The defense as a whole doesn't pursue like TBays (few do).

I think this is a great 2nd game for the Skins. The Gints appear to be a below average team with some good and some bad qualities. TBay's team was so lopsided (all D no O) that the Skins can use the Gints to see how they fair against mediocre O and D.

I see a similar game plan for both sides of the ball but with more success on O.

sure guys, just wanna contribute.

sucks Barrow can't play vs. the team that made him huh? well, considering how Pierce has been playing maybe not..

gotta keep an eye on those WR and Barber screens...should be fun to see our offense against this D. can't wait.

I watched the Philly-NY game and Westbrook broke loose a couple of times. I look for Portis to be even better this week, no doubt that Bugel took it hard that his guys weren't giving Portis much room to run after his big gain. So here's how I'd gameplan.

1) Run Clinton Run. There will only be more holes from here on out. With Gibbs and Bugel out of the game so long, TB was a great way for them to get inundated with what's changed. The offense will get better and they will run the ball more effectively. I look for at least two more Portis tds.

2) Pressure. You know its coming, I know its coming and the Giants know its coming. But as long as Kurt Warner is under center we've got to put people in his face. Hit him a couple of times and he'll either fumble or throw a pick.

3) Where's Sean? I don't like seeing the talented rookie on the sideline, but if he channels his aggression on to the field (ala LaVar in the USA today article) then he should be at his playmaking best. If he gets on the field, he will make a play.

4) Wideouts anyone? The passing game is coming around slowly and Rod Gardner is still catch one, drop one. The cover 2 employed by the Bucs may have shackled us a little, but I see Coles and Thrash having big games.

Skins 30 Giants 9

Same keys as last week, and for any week for that matter

1) Establish the run and control the clock
2) Stop the run
3) Win the turnover battle

Would also like to see some improvements in ST coverage and maybe a bit more efficiency from the passing game.

i'm glad others agree that the NY WRs are better and that they'll be a better test of our D CRT was ripping me a new asshole for saying the same thing in another thread for some reason

im way more worried about Tiki as a receiver in the flat than as a runner. our Dline SHOULD be able to stop their anemic running game. they are gonna try to throw short passes over the blitzers. our DBs need to play tight and to the inside against the 'dink' game, Warner shouldn't have time for the long strike. ST would cause absolute havok for these kind of plays...

w/o a doubt, Hilliard and Toomer have been the worst divisional headaches against us for years...since Smith and Irvin

yeah i doubt we'll hold tiki to 30 yds. rushing. but i think either way the giants are not ready for a blitzing D, esp. at this juncture of the season (what with warner and manning chuckin the rock). it should be pretty basic. open up our passing game through portis and the running game. and like u guys are saying, look for a big day from the entire offense this time. skins should win this with ease. call it...

since their secondary is bad too, i hope gibbs uses it to get brunell some more confidence in the passing game, cause i know dallas games aren't the place to try things...
