Official Inauguration Day Thread
I don't want this to turn into a political, left vs. right thread, but instead a celebration of a special day in our history. Any time a new President is inaugurated it's a big deal, but undoubtedly this is one of the biggest.

Re: Official Inauguration Day Thread
I watched the news some this morning and just could not believe the people out there and if I'm correct all the major roads going into DC are closed so they have been there for sometime now. I think it would be fun for someone tomorrow to start a thread looking for what people think that Obama will accomplish in his first year. Not a pole but just asking for peoples thoughts and next year this time we can pull it back up to see who was right or wrong.

Re: Official Inauguration Day Thread
I'm surprised this thread is moving so slow with all the politcal stuff we talked about around the elections and the history making of this event.

Re: Official Inauguration Day Thread
Maybe it will start to pick up now with the actual changing of the guard right around the corner.
But yeah, I'm a bit surprised as well. I guess political threads move slow when there's no arguing.

Re: Official Inauguration Day Thread
Honeymoon is over for Obama now, he's got a job to do and he better do it better than everyone's already immensely lofty expectations of him.

Re: Official Inauguration Day Thread
DC is a ****ing mess.
I had to take my aunt out at 5am this morning and let me tell you, if you were taking the Metro, "screwed" doesn't begin to explain how bad it was. I live between 2 Metro stations (Greenbelt and Fort Totten, if you're from the area) and got curious and decided to see how bad it was at 5:30am. Greenbelt station was backed up. There was 20-30 minute wait just to get into the PARKING LOT. Police had blocked off the parking lot to PG Mall and to the new Metro Shops garage. I figured if people were smart, they'd just drive about 4-5 blocks away and park in the Home Depot parking lot and just walk and pray they don't get ticketed or towed. Fort Totten Station was way better. No red tape, less police presence, but then again it is Fort Totten. But yeah this morning and right now (people are leaving), I feel terrible for those people on the mall, just purely because of the transportation issues. Though I wish I could've been there.

Re: Official Inauguration Day Thread
Well its kind of like running a football team. If you take over one that is 1/15 its alot easier to improve then taking over one that is 12/4 so I'm not sure if that a good thing or a bad for Obama.

Re: Official Inauguration Day Thread
Read, but did not see, Obama's speech. Lots of good stuff in it. Huge expectations for him. If he can bridge the gap between right and left, yay for him. Each side has valid points and each side has its uncompromising elements. True bi partisanism will be a difficult thing to achieve given the polarization of the past 16 years. I think the country is ripe for it, but it will take some effort (on both sides of the aisle) to look at their differences as philosophical rather than judgmental.
