Serving Sizes
HOLY CRAP. I went to a nutrition presentation at a YMCA and I learned about serving sizes, and I was blown away. I had no idea i was eating 650 calories in Kashi cereal alone, NOT INCLUDING THE MILK. Haha
I work out about 4 times a week, and I couldn't figure out why I wasn't loosing any weight. Well it makes sense with me clocking in at about 2900 a day. Now I have cup measures and i'm tracking everything |

Re: Serving Sizes

Re: Serving Sizes
I've lost 42 lbs and still have another 40 to go but hit a wall. I changed the way I was eating but the running really helped me a lot at first.
I think its time for more diet modification (especially game days) and weight training. Btw I'm running over 20 miles a week and my longest was 8 miles last week and I weigh 270 lbs still.

Re: Serving Sizes
Serving sizes have definitely gotten way out of control over the years. Anyone eat at a Cheesecake Factory lately? My god the portions are outrageous.

Re: Serving Sizes
Have said this before but, people want to point the finger at Fast Food as the cancer that is causing us to be fat. Really I think it is the Chilis and TGFI type restaurants that are the worst, some of their meals can equal up to three Big Macs. It is crazy!
This may not be so true but it has worked for me. In order for me to gain weight I have to have a number of belly busting meals, basically eat until my stomach hurts. When my stomach hurts like that it is stretching thus now I have to have larger size portions to feel full. It is a vicious cycle and hard to break. Now I listen to my body more carefully I have been able to reduce my portion sizes by big amounts. Right now for example I can eat a six inch Subway sub and a bag of chips with a water/diet soda and be full for lunch, in the past it may have taken a large sub, a bag of chips, a cookie and drink to be full for lunch. One other thing to keep in mind is no matter what your body is today it requires effort to keep it like it is, even if you are a fat slob. Basically if you are three hundred pounds you have to keep eating X amount of calories everyday to maintain that three hundred pounds and it also helps if you physical don't do a damn thing all day as well. So with that said even small changes over time can make a difference in the way your body looks and feels. I have a new rule for myself now that I am 35. My age always has to be higher then my waist size. Currently I am 35 with a 32 inch waist. A few years back I had let myself get up to 210 on a 5'10" frame by not exercising and not listening to my body, I felt awful like a big fat stick in the mud. Through exercise and diet I now have maintaned a weight of 175 to 180 with a good amount being muscle. Once you past 30 look out man your body slows down and weight can come fast ( I learned the hard way). You can't have the same lifestyle you had in your twenties that you have in your thirtys and expect to wear your jeans from college.

Re: Serving Sizes
I firmly believe the main culprit for our collective fatness in this country is portion size. It is true enough that the restaraunts of our world feed us fattening death bomb meals but mostly the problem isn't what is in them but how much. A nice 1/4 LB cheeseburger with bacon and mushrooms is just as tastey as a 1/2 LBer but only half as bad. We eat too much and we do too little nowadays.

Well I agree that would be the best choice at restaurants I would not waste my time or money to go out to eat grilled chix with steamed veggies, I would stay home for that. No one is saying you can't indulge in those foods once in awhile just don't make it an every day thing. No one meal has every made someone fat only. Big Mac 540 calories 29g Fat McDonald's USA - Bag A McMeal Chilis Ceaser Salad w/ Grilled Chix 1010 calories 76g Fat Menu at Chili's Grill & Bar "Oh I will just eat healthy and have a salad at Chilis instead of a Big Mac" I use this example becuse my co-worker's over weight daughter is always on a diet and she eats health by having Ceaser Salads. Pffff...

Re: Serving Sizes
Problems with the American diet are vast. Are portions are too large but the diet itself is also deeply flawed.
