It does not appear that either camp REALLY wants to chat about immigration? Interesting.....

Re: The Official Presidential Debate Thread (Round 3)
I hope folks are paying attention to the policies, McCain is 100% right on the Colombia Free Trade agreement. Obama's plan for Health Care will also hurt small business. This election boils down to this; do you want Government to control more and redistribute wealth or people to have more control over their own money and lives.
EDIT: When Obama is shaking his head and smiling, he knows McCain is making a good point.

Neither health care plan will look anything like it does now IF it actually goes through congress. Obama's has a better chance to go through congress with the dems backing and support, but I've heard all about all these health plans since 1994 with hillary's plan that never amounted to shit.

I was hoping Schaffer would close the debate with "Momma always told me, life is like a box of chocolates..."

All I know is that McCain looked like a crazy person at times during that debate. I think he might be losing his tight fisted grip on sanity.

Re: The Official Presidential Debate Thread (Round 3)
I don't know I'm a conservative when it comes to most views, but I'm sick to death of the fear campaigning and hate mongers that have been pushing the republican agenda since 9-11.
McCain just seems bitter and condescending. Really off putting.

Really? I tend to laugh along with Obama as I sip on my martini because I realize how much baseless hot air McCain is spewing. It might just be a matter of perspective.

Re: The Official Presidential Debate Thread (Round 3)
Anyone else notice how McCain never defends Obama's explanation of his health plan? Does taxing your health care benefits count as a tax hike? Hell, even if you use McCain's own numbers (false numbers btw) you're still in the hook for another 3.5K if your employer decides to dump your ass (8.5K average health cost minus 5K credit). And why wouldn't your employer dump you?
What I really don't get is taxing health care benefits and then giving the money back to us. The math is just abysmal and the numbers just don't add up. Just thinking about it boggles my mind. If anyone has a good grasp on his plan feel free to explain.

Re: The Official Presidential Debate Thread (Round 3)
mccain spent a lot of time on worthless issues (third party campaign remarks, etc) and not enough time on the issues :/.
I don't think the question this election is who's going to win, but simply by how much. i just hope obama doesn't balloon up the debt even more (since neither candidates spending plans match their cost cuts), doesn't do something stupid to the military (i think he'll leave it alone for the most part), and doesn't goof up on foreign policy (trade agreements, military, policies, etc). if he can stop china's money pegging game, that'd be great... if he can reduce insurance costs, that'd be great too (but actually putting a cost value to force americans to help reduce their own medical costs individually would be an even better idea that would also reduce insurance and taxpayer cost... ie when deciding between a 95% effective surgery or a 99% effective one make them pay 5% - so a 20k surgery costs $1,000 and a 1mill surgery would cost them 50k$... by putting dollar signs up front, you get self censorship on medical expenditures, which can save the taxpayers MASSIVE amounts of up front money, even more on insurance costs, and allows even more people to be insured or receive further medical care). now if he'll let people opt out of social security, ban credit swaps (or regulate them like insurance), etc etc, that'd be even better. if warren buffet is dictating his economic policy then the economy going forward should be in pretty good shape. hopefully he keeps secretary gates too, that guy seems to get the big picture. |

I agree, and that smirk he has on his face when Obama is talking is just annoying. No style points for him at all.
