Hugh Douglas anyone?
From Fox Sports-
The Jacksonville Jaguars have shifted their youth movement into another gear. FOXSports.com has learned that the Jaguars today will release veteran Pro Bowl pass rusher Hugh Douglas just one year after the defensive end signed a large free-agent package with the team. Jaguars officials said they wanted more youth and speed rushing the edges and didn't think Douglas' situation with the team would get any better. It's not clear yet who will replace Douglas in the starting lineup. The Jaguars are expected the move later today. During his nine-year career with the Jets, Eagles and Jaguars, Douglas has totaled 77 sacks

Jeez, after one year and big contract Douglas is out of Jacksonville?
I just wish for once, we could stop picking through every other teams' trash looking for a stand-out defensive end -- and start developing our own. Maybe next year we can get a defensive lineman high in the draft. |

If he still has anything left he's worth a look, much more so than Brackens. I wouldn't be surprised if he's brought in for a workout.

If he's not looking for a huge deal, hes most defintley worth looking at. Hes not trash, this guy still has a ton of skill. I think we should take a look, but if its a wrong deal, its not worth it.

33 years old and only 3.5 sacks and 27 tackles last year... Obviously Jax didn't think it was going to get much better. At this point he's only a situational pass rusher.

I hope we bring him in for a look. I was watching the training camp special on the Jags and he looked like he was in great shape and if we were going to give up Gardner, Betts, and a pick for Ogun I wouldn't be suprised if we give him a look.

def bring in hugh. has been monsterous until last season, but he was said to have re-dedicated himself. definitly more skilled than any DE on our team, maybe even better than griffen, if he can play like he did the year be4 last

Hugh Douglas is an upgrade over the DEs currently on the roster here. But if you remain fixated on the phrase "Pro Bowl defensive end, Hugh Douglas" you are going to be disappointed.
His days of stardom are in the rear view mirror. The skins should try to get him - at a reasonable price - because their D-Line is still very very marginal. But if they get him, please keep this in perspective as the season goes along. So far, none - not a single one - of the guys that Andy Reid and company in Philly have "let go" because their contract demands were excessive have turned out to be star material anywhere else. Douglas fits that description... |

Aside from Douglas I'm guessing the first name that came to Curmudgeon's mind was Trotter

And really, what has Shawn Barber done since he left Washington? He was only in Philly for a season, then was signed to that 'defensive juggernaut' in Kansas City. Anyone associated with that defense has a lot of 'splaining to do.

Shawn Barber? Are you serious?
Starting LB for the team that had the 30th ranked defense in the league? Or was it 31st? The same team that could not force a punt from the Colts in the playoffs and gave them 38 points? I know that Barber used to be a Redskin, but that does not make him a star or even a top drawer player. He played well here; he played better in Philly than he did here; his time in KC has not been stellar by any definition! |
