is this a Gibbs diss?? does it even apply?
i can't really tell...
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2...e=grant/040825 think the Great One does this alot? who does it apply to now: Iffy? Rock? Ramsey? personally i think Gibbs weighs alot more on player's intangibles (you know what i mean!) than any other coach. things like work ethic, dedication, intelligence etc. i'm not sure what flashy label or contract Mark Rypien ever had.... then again, he really wanted Brunell, and we all know Ramsey's ethic and dedication.... |

The guys story is from his prespective, only Gibbs knows why the WR didn't make the Redskins roster (Or to my knowledge anyone elses).

Part of Joe's job is to make the tough decisions on roster choices. This guy sounds like a borderline prospect... if it weren't for him, some other borderline prospect would have been cut. This guy just happened to be friends with the author.

...and Walt B. has been tearing it up in the NFL ever since......?????
That is the most pointless story I have ever heard. If a guy has the talent to make it in the NFL, he will get a chance somewhere. There 32 teams, some in great need of a Wide receivers. There is also NFL Europe. Canadian League.....so on and so on. Walt B. must have been good, but not good enough. Don't blame the coaches or other players (QB in this case) for lack of NFL career. |

I think there are so many things he DOESN'T say in the story. Was he overthrown by 6 inches or 10 yards? Did the guy dive for a ball that was just overthrown or give up on it?
The moral is that sometimes the wrong guys make the cut, but the story doesn't really support the moral. |

What do you expect from a guy who thinks Marques Tuiasosopo is the best man as a Raider's QB over Kerry Collins and Rich Gannon. This writer Alan Grant is a scary judge of talent....

I think he was referring more to the fact that Walt B did everything right and Joe Gibbs seemingly came off as saying hey, you had your shot.
I don't know a whole lot of that era, but I'm guessing we were pretty loaded at WR and he didn't have a huge shot anyways. Tuiasosopo may just be the Raiders best chance. I never thought Kerry Collins did anything but restrict the Giants, Gannon is ancient. The young guy showed some poise when I saw him last year. |
