Tony Brackens... is he worth a roster spot?

He was released by the Jags and could come pretty cheap. To me, even in a rotation, would be nice to have on the roster. At worst he is average and can come in as a long yardage pass rusher to give a starter a break. At best, he recovers and is a real pass rushing threat and bolsters the defensive line, which makes Arrington and Washington's job that much easier.

What do ya think? Should Gibbs bring him in? Give him a shot?

I don't see the harm in giving him a shot

ABSOLUTLY!

I've lived in Jacksonville since 1995 and have seen T. Brak since he was drafted. This guy when health can completly take over a game. I realize that he has had a history of injuries resently but our potential gain well out ways the investment. He is a quality guy that will be great in the locker room and on the field. Even if you only use him in spot duty they way they used Jumpy Gathers in the early 90's. It would give the opposing offense one more thing to worry about on 3rd down.

I say sign him before someone else does. :thumb:

I got the impression for the press statement he hasn't gotten over his existing knee problems. The last operation he had is apparently viewed as the last resort and if he can't come back after that, he's done.

Question is did his coaches think he wasn't recovering or did they simply not have the time to let him recover?

I say give him a shot hell if he can play spot duty it would be good the guy is flat out nasty. Talk about penetration this guy used to intercept passes from the d-line. amazing

Operative words there are "used to". The guy is washed up. Period. According to the report I saw, he had issues with he knee that have not healed up. We might as well sign Bruce back if we're that desperate.

his injury this pre season had nothing to do with his knee, it was a torn calf muscle, so he isnt "done", they just couldnt evaluate him cuz he wasnt on the field at all, kinda like ladell betts here

I think Gibbs and Williams are pretty happy with what we have now. Our pass rush has looked better in the preseason, so I think we'll be ok. Plus, Brackens isn't 100%.....so,why add a player who can't come in and contribute right away?

I say him bring in for a physical and let the real doctors decide if he has anything left. If his knees are ok then see if he is willing to sign him to the vet min. and make him a third down specialist. That will help our pass rush and extend his career.

Who would we cut to give this broken down DE a spot?

I'd rather roll with what we've got and not pick through other's trash.

Like someone already said, we could bring back Smith if we want an old, washed up DE.

If its VERY cheap, what the hey , give em' a shot. Personally, I"m not that dissapointed with how our dline has played thusfar. We have had a couple decent surpises in Warner and Sa'alve , and if I'm not mistaken, Dainels hasent even played yet. I mean were not gonna be the Panthers or anything, but I still think were gonna be soild with what we have.
