NFL unveils new fan code of conduct
NFL UNVEILS NEW FAN CODE OF CONDUCT
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 5, 2008, 4:02 p.m. The NFL announced today that it will implement a new fan code of conduct, and that fans who break the rules can be ejected from stadiums and barred from returning. Fortunately, theres nothing in the new rules that bans standing. The league says it is attempting to crack down on behavior that detracts from the gameday experience, including: Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal. Drunkenness and signs of alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior. Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures. Interference with the progress of the game, including throwing objects onto the field. Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel. Verbal or physical harassment of fans from the opposing team. There will no doubt be some fans who object to these rules, and some will be hard to enforce, but overall, these guidelines seem reasonable. Assuming that stadium personnel use good judgment in enforcing the rules, this new code of conduct should make life more pleasant for the million or so people who fill NFL stadiums each Sunday.

Re: NFL unveils new fan code of conduct
Wow If they actually enforce this, Philly will only have four or five fans left by halftime.

Re: NFL unveils new fan code of conduct
Not for most normal people IMO. That just want to enjoy the game with their family, friends and have a good time.
Do you really find the outlined rules, what makes a game day experience? How many games have you been to? Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal. I from a ticket holder perspective that goes to every Redskin home game and travel three hours each way to get to FedEx, APPLAUD THIS MOVE!

My problem is how vague these rules seem to be. It's basically so they can throw anyone they want out, or let anyone they want stay. Some are good such as throwing objects or stopping play, etc. But what's verbal harassment of a fan from another team? I love to hear some ribbing of opposing fans. When I went to see the skins in Pittsburgh I welcomed and expected to trade some jabs from folks (who by the way, everyone in my section wanted Pittsburgh to cut Willie Parker. It was when he was really young, but still.) What is foul to some people isn't foul to others. I don't care if your kids are around if I want to spew god damnit's I will. Since you can say that on the radio it isn't foul, right? Yet piss will get you kicked out of the stadium? Yet another set of rules in another venue in this country littered with loose rules that translate much differently to different people. If the NFL or stadiums ever ban standing, it will be a sad, sad day for football. You want to sit down, stay at home or buy club tickets.

Re: NFL unveils new fan code of conduct
It does not state that you cannot pour your beer on Dallas or Philly fans . Looks like the Eagles will have to put a big screen on the OUTSIDE of the stadium so there fans can watch the game on Sundays .

Re: NFL unveils new fan code of conduct
firstdown -- I know they probably won't for a lot of the small things, but I hate that it's open to that if the security staff wants to.

Re: NFL unveils new fan code of conduct
I think the basic message is don't get out of hand and be a jerk. If you don't do that you should have nothing to worry about.
As for banning standing at a game I don't see how that could or would ever happen. How would they even go about trying to enforce that?? |

Re: NFL unveils new fan code of conduct
Matty, it's a reality in a lot of stadiums now. And like the Chiefs, setup a text messaging system where you can tattle. Although that can be easily abused, still. They need to setup a "fan" section, then throw the families a bone and give them a tiny section of the upper deck. Wanna take your kids, go there. Otherwise, let the rest of us enjoy the game.

Re: NFL unveils new fan code of conduct
So if you want to take your kids you should be sequestered to a tiny section in the upper deck?
Anyone else see a problem here? Isn't it possible to enjoy the game without being an ass or needing a R rated surrounding? |
