Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

It's unlikely we'll be able to fill all our needs in the draft, and barring a trade (CJ?) or last minute free agent signing (Scott?) we're not likely to make many other moves in free agency/trades.

So with that in mind, where can we afford to go with the status quo for another year?

In other words, what do we LEAST need?

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

It's pretty difficult but if I had to choose, I probably would stand pat with WRs and resign Caldwell.. I don't think we can afford to ignore CBs since this is new era for NFL - lot and lot of passing going on with those teams today.. Just like CBs we cannot ignore D-line, we need to focus on DE area and find someone who can rush.. And our O-line has shown us that they cannot be expected to play full year together, which means we need to find some depth for O-line..

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

I say DT because we have a pretty good rotation and a great defensive coach and therefore the's no need for drafting a DT on day one ie Sedrick Ellis or Alan Branch, I mean Glenn Dorsey even if they fall into our lap at those picks. By the way I searched for combine results for Kedric Golston (really good) and Anthony Montgomery (not too good) and was pretty surprised. Chew on this...

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

I'm going to go with CB. I think we have a pretty strong rotation there, and they played great down the stretch. Even if you pencil Rogers as a number three this year, I like the line-up.

Besides your CBs are, to an extent, only as good as the pressure they get up front.

I also agree, our CBs will look much better this year if we can get some help for Andre Carter and the Pass Rush, and to a lesser point run "stoppage"

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

For me, it's clearly OT.

Chris Samuels is one of the best in the business, easily a top 10 OT in this league. Jansen is getting older and is coming off injury, but he's played next to Randy Thomas for a long time, is still very strong, and we could do a lot worse. Plus we've got up-and-coming Stephon Heyer as a good depth guy, who Bugel seems to love.

I recognize Samuels and Jansen aren't spring chickens, but I wouldn't call them old either. To me, OT isn't a need at all. In fact I think it's one of our better positions and actually stuck out to me as a position that doesn't even really belong on this list. I think LB is a much bigger need than OT, and it didn't make the list.

I also agree that I'm pretty satisfied with the current group of CBs.

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

griffin is old, we need a DT.
springs could be leaving, we need a CB.

we can stand at OT (samuels, jansen, heyer, possibly wade) or WR (rookie isn't going to help much in the first year in all likelyhodd anyways).

OG, we need someone under 30
DE - need to replace daniels, and the backups aren't great either.

here's the thing though... if we stand pat this year, guess who some of the FAs are next year? julius peppers, roy williams, etc... talk about addressing needs!

we have the full profiles (not the free ones) on here somewhere, and they were here a week or so before the draft, cause those were the only two DTs i really looked at for day two that year lemme see if i can find it..

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

I'm going to say WR, but it could be OT pretty easily if Jansen can be relied on for a full season.

We should probably just let the WR situation go another year at this point. Maybe a mid-round guy can be our #3, but it's not necessary to solve a non-issue with a non-solution.

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

I'm gonna have to say DT, because we have three quality Dt's right now, Anthony Montgomery, Kedric Golston, and Cornelius Griffin, I know Cornelius is getting old but Kedric is just waiting to become the full time starter, and he is learning just as Anthony Montgomery did, we are set for years to come with those two.

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

Well, if the question is where do we least need to "improve", then I'm going with OT. Anyone else we bring in certainly won't overtake either Samuels or Jansen.....it'd be merely a depth move (which I would support, but it isn't our biggest need).

I could see improving at WR through the draft (although perhaps we'd have to wait a year or so for the rookie to develop). I could definitely see improvements in DE (in fact, a round one DE could probably start by mid-season), and CB (if nothing else, a top rookie could be an impoved #3 CB). DT could be improved as well, but I think our needs are greater at DE and CB. OG is kind of similar to OT in that I don't see anyone new coming in and starting for us, but between the two, I'm more comfortable with our OTs than our OGs (in terms of the injury bug).

Re: Where Do We LEAST Need To Improve?

Concentrate on the D in the draft with new CBs, a new S, a D linemen for a change. I still say go for a WR though somewhere in the upper to mid rounds. All of our studs in the position are questionable in my opinion. Santana rocks, but gets hurt a lot and age will become a factor in a few seasons if it hasn't already with the injuries. Randle El has really nice games, then just average games, no consistency. Caldwell showed promise at times, but then he didn't get too may balls thrown to him. Get some young guns at WR or at least one, then get another in draft 09'. I would say another CB or DE in the first round.
