How Will Cardinals Handle Boldin Following Fitzerald Restructuring?

Cardinals' focus now shifts to Boldin

Interesting piece by Adam Schefter... and it sort of makes sense. Fitzgerald is getting paid big bucks, so naturally Boldin is want to get the same type of money. He won't get it from the Cards, so a trade is possible (esp with Rosenhaus as his agent). This would probably be a much better option than CJ or Roy Williams.

Re: New big time WR in the mix...Anquan Boldin

ESPN - Anquan Boldin Stats, News, Photos - Arizona Cardinals - NFL Football

Here is Boldin's scouting report and his stats:

2007 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
Grade: 80 | Key
Alert: None

Comment: Boldin is big, physical and tough. He is an excellent intermediate target who will go over the middle and come down with balls in traffic. He has excellent, soft hands and outstanding body control. He can make acrobatic catches outside his frame. He will beat press coverage and win battles downfield with his size and strength. He has an outstanding feel for the game and excels working over the middle of the field. He has great awareness, always knows where he is on the field and can find voids in zone coverage. He works back to his quarterback when plays break down. He can use his off hand to subtly push off and create separation. He is an excellent route runner. He will plant, stick and get out of his cuts with very little wasted motion. He does all the little things very well, including block. He consistently breaks tackles and gains yards after contact. His excellent balance and power translate to big-play ability after the catch. Boldin lacks top-end speed, but he has excellent quickness and elusiveness.

Re: New big time WR in the mix...Anquan Boldin

I love Boldin, but I hope the Cards can work something out to keep him. His asking price will be huge & don't think it would be smart to try & pay him. Obviously we don't want to see him in philly or dallas.

If nothing else, maybe Danny can drive the price up that those guys pay, but like I said, I hope he stay in Arizona. (For some reason I have sympathy for the Cards, maybe cause they've sucked for so long & they're no longer in our division?)

I'd love to have him here...he'd be so much better of an option than DJ Hackett.

STOP STOP STOP!!!

STOP the madness, please!!!

Schefter says NOTHING about the Cardinals' interest in trading Anquan Boldin. He's simply speculating that because Fitzgerald just got paid, Boldin will immediately demand a new contract (maybe, maybe not) and if he demands a new contract, the Cards will not be willing to pay him AND Fitzgerald (maybe, maybe not).

There's absolutely no substance to this whatsoever. This is an unfounded rumor with no insider knowledge. Not worthy of discussion.

Yes but it is still fun to speculate about the possibilities.

Hey, the Cardinals made a statement between the lines with the Fitzgerald deal. They sent a message loud and clear as to who their long term solution is at the WR position and Boldin will realize it is NOT him.

The Cards cannot afford to pay Boldin the same type money that they just committed to Fitzgerald. All Boldin will be looking for a commitment similar to what Fitzgerald got.

Now when Boldin starts asking for a trade or new deal, with the money already committed at the WR position, you can bet that Arizona will be more apt to trade Boldin than Fitzgerald and may allow Boldin to seek a trade.

Sure there is nothing concrete and it is mere speculation. But this is a very realistic scenario and not a pipe dream in any sense. So it is interesting to discuss.

Until there's an inside source giving any kind of REMOTE indication that the Cardinals are considering trading Boldin, it's COMPLETELY POINTLESS to discuss it.

Unless you enjoy talking about trades that would be cool in Madden land.

Reason and level-headedness have no place in the off-season.

It's the off season bro. What do you expect? I know this is down right silly to talk about. Perhaps this thread could've been re named. It's an interesting situation because now Boldin is going to want a new deal. Fitz is now making 4 times as much a Boldin. Just for the balance of pay structure of the team I'd probably think that Boldin would have to be on the move in the future. Don't you? I guess Indy pays Harrison and Wayne very well so perhaps it can be done. But I'd keep my eye on it.

the colts also run a wide open, pass first offense which the cards ran later this past year out of necessity but whisenhunt is expected to move away from asap.

at this point, boldin leaving arizona is just a rumour. however, i'd say the viability of it justifies discussion. i'm generally against trading draft picks. but for a young, productive, motivated, high character, immensely talented, big play receiver like anquan boldin - i'd cough up our first rounder and take his contract, as is. YES, i said it.

No "inside source" cited, but JLC thinks it worth mentioning as well:

Stop being logical!! We're fans, we're not supposed to be logical.

No, the article is just that, speculation.

I think it is worth a mention and then we can file it under "Keep an eye on this situation". But no serious discussion is needed I agree.
