Another Pick In The 3rd Round?
I really can't pretend to fully understand how compensatory picks works but this guy (who also posts I think on KFFL) is pretty on point with these kind of things.
And he says we're getting an extra 3rd round pick, if I'm reading this right AdamJT13

Re: Another Pick In The 3rd Round?
So for letting Dockery sign a contract as big as he is in Buffalo, we get a 3rd round pick? Thats freaking sweet.

Re: Another Pick In The 3rd Round?
Compensatory Picks
In addition to the 32 picks in each round, there are a total of up to 32 picks dispersed at the ends of Rounds 3 through 7. These picks, known as "compensatory picks," are awarded to teams that have lost more qualifying free agents than they gained the previous year in free agency. Teams that gain and lose the same number of players but lose higher-valued players than they gain also can be awarded a pick, but only in the seventh round, after the other compensatory picks. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the placement of the picks is determined by a proprietary formula based on the player's salary, playing time and postseason honors with his new team, with salary being the primary factor. So, for example, a team that lost a linebacker who signed for $2.5 million per year in free agency might get a sixth-round compensatory pick, while a team that lost a wide receiver who signed for $5 million per year might receive a fourth-round pick. If fewer than 32 such picks are awarded, the remaining picks are awarded in the order in which teams would pick in a hypothetical eighth round of the draft. Compensatory picks are awarded each year at the NFL annual meeting which is held at the end of March; typically, about three or four weeks before the draft. [edit] Eligibility

I love that we get a seventh (allegedly) for the Warrick "Please push me back 5 yards" Holdman.

Won't know until late March, but that guy seems to know what he is talking about. Sweet!
Compensatory picks can't be traded.

Re: Another Pick In The 3rd Round?
This is Awsome if it is true. You know, I noticed that even poor ass Kenny Wright got a three year contract, in Cleveland. We lost Ducket and Dockery, so maybe he is right. I found this at NFL Draft Rules

Re: Another Pick In The 3rd Round?
I guess my question is, really the main guy we lost last year was Derrick Dockery....but we also signed Fletcher/Smoot.....so wouldnt we have signed just as highly stouted FA's as the one loss of Dockery?
I mean, I'm not complianing, cause that would be awsome, but does anyone know how exactly this is figured out before I get too excited?

Also, I don't think Smoot counts because the Vikings released him

Re: Another Pick In The 3rd Round?
It looks like I may, yet again, have egg all over my face. I have been under what seems to be a mistaken impression, i.e., that the Redskins will never get a nice compensatory pick.

Re: Another Pick In The 3rd Round?
so really the nfl draft is 8 rounds long, not 7, I never picked up on that (a round being defined as 32 picks, one for each team)
