Poor Iffy

What happened? He went from returning an 80 yard int for a TD against the Saints, and starting most of last year, to being on the third line. And boy did he look terrible, he got burned twice, and just looked slow and uninterested. Hes a veteran now, I was shocked that he was once our starter based on last nights performance. Also I remember a thread on this site where many said he should start the year instead of Taylor. As a culmination, the post said today he could be among the first to be cut, what happened?

iffy got burned on at least of the two of those long touchdown passes, and gave up a very costly (and blatant) pass interference call. jimoh looked bad as well.

iffy can not start on the skins, he was getting burned by the second and third teams, imagine if he was on the field against the first team, he was out of position all night, made some very poor decisions (on the second long touchdown he let the reciever run right through his zone and didn't even bother picking him up)

Wow what a downward spiral for Iffy. Is he carrying an injury or just not getting Williams schemes. Still it makes the decision to take Taylor even more important.

yea Taylor is really going to solidify the safety position, a crucial piece to an aggressive defensise to have that safety net back there. We'll see who ends up getting to play next to him

Perhaps Iffy's confidence is shot after Taylor being drafted and Lott playing ahead of him in camp. I've never thought that much of him anyway, he's an average player. I won't cry if he's cut.

Lott clearly has Ohalete beat. But won't we keep a fourth safety behind Taylor, Lott and Bowen?

Todd Franz maybe? What about David Terrell? Should we think about bringing him back?

I wouldn't say Bowen is a shoe in for the team. He hasn't played any better than Iffy. If we start Taylor and Lott I wouldn't be suprised one bit.

This could meen we end up changing both starting safties from last year, in fact it could make Smoot the only surviving starter from the secondary unit along two out of three new starters in the LB corp and only possibly Wynn remaining from last years starting D-line and even that is not given . Thats alot of changes they kind of crept up on me.

Isn't Lott a bit small to be playing strong safety? Maybe we should give Iffy a shot at strong safety, he's a big guy

Tod Franz did have a nice INT there, good read. dont know if hes starting caliber, but he played well last season as a reserve. Him and Lott have played better than Bowen or Iffy thus far this pre-season, but we must wait a little longer to see who is the best.

Yeah, average could even be generous. Is it possible he did not stand out as so bad last year because the entire defense stunk it up so bad? The D already looks 180 degrees out from last year's crew, and they're just getting warmed up.

even without champ, our d is much better this year thus far (read: williams), our LBs are much better, and we got taylor (and more depth on a D-line that's still average)...

taylor, lott, franz, bowen... that's my personal safety depth chart right now... is it the vanilla schemes? taylor and lott picked it up fine...
