it seems this year thers alot of free agents lbs ,more so then others pos. and teams relize this thats why there releasing players like zach thomas ,shawn barber ,dan morgon ,d.smith ,( and proberly ian gold too). t.suggs and k.dansby got fran taged but theres still some good talent left.lance briggs of course is the big name and will get the big contract , but the others proberly will get alittle underpaid just because theres so many options.whereas g's will get a ton of money agian ,because teams will be fighting over them.
the list of aviable fa lb i got include... al wilson den ,calvin pace card ,t.burschi pat ,j.seau pat ,demo williams atl ,c higgins pitt ,b bailey det ,v hobson jet ,r boiman colt ,d clark tex ,j lenman det , b chiller ram ,n diggs car , k mitchell nyg ,c thompson clev , r tobar nyg , plus the ones i already mentioned above. so who do we get to pick up for rocky ,who even when he comes back might not play all that well. im counting him out for the whole year ,and does anyone know when m washigtons contarct is up? because who ever we bring in might take rockys place this year and washigtons next. i like v hobson ,b bailey ,r tobar , demo williams and rocky boiman i think all could get the job done and be relitivly cheap soultions ,whereas if we have money to burn it should go to dline or secondary. what do you guys think? EDIT (legible version): It seems that this year there are a lot of free agent linebackers, more so than other positions. Teams are noticing this which is why you see guys like Zack Thomas, Shawn Barber, Dan Morgan, Derek Smith, and Ian Gold being released. Terrell Suggs and Karlos Dansby have been franchised but there are still a lot of strong candidates available. I think because there is such a large supply, the demand may not be as high thus driving down the price; unlike offensive guard where we'll most likely once again see high salaries being doled out due to the limited talent pool at that position. Lance Briggs, of course, should expect to get a large contract as he is the top name out there. Here is a look at the linebackers available in free agency Inside Linebackers Outside Linebackers Now, even though Bubba Tyer has said Rocky McIntosh should be ready by July I expect him to be out for the year. And if he does come back he may not even play all that well. Couple that with the fact that I'm not sure of Marcus Washington's status, I think we may be looking at LB help to replace two guys on our current roster over the next couple of years. Among the guys I like are Victor Hobson (jets), Boss Bailey (lions), DeMorrio Williams (falcons), and Rocky Boiman (colts). I think all of those options can get the job done at a relatively cheap price. Now, if we feel we have to money to burn then I think we should go after the defensive line or secondary. But considering our financial limitations, I would focus on a young, relatively cheap linebacker. What do you guys think?

I like Bailey from Lions - I saw few games of him and he played pretty well.. If I was Vinny, I would try and go after Bailey..

I wouldn't mind bringing Clemons back as a Pass rush specialist.

Lemar Marshall is on that list! Seriously, I'd love to see him back as a reserve, but don't know if his achilles will be healed enough.
What about Haggans of Pitt? I always thought he was pretty solid. |

Re: free agent linebackers ,who should we go for in terms of depth or a starter?
Thanks for the edit SS...
As far as linebackers go, no need to add a starter, just depth. With Washington, Fletcher and Blades (until McIntosh is ready to go), the only quality depth is Khary Campbell (Godfrey will most likely retire) if he is re-signed. Boss Bailey would be a fairly inexpensive route for outside depth, and would be an excellent fill-in if Washington continues to have injury problems. As would Clark Haggans (if he doesn't re-sign with Pittsburgh) There aren't too many decent options for the middle. This might have to be a draft pick...

i say we take a shot at Franchised Karlos Dansby... Is it possible? or do we have to give up picks? How does that work?

We would have to give up two first round picks

Re: free agent linebackers ,who should we go for in terms of depth or a starter?
I like Boss alot but he seems to be constantly hurt. DeMario Williams would be a great pick up. He is very athletic and would be a great addition to our line up for depth with Washington always hurt and Rocky coming off major surgery. Williams could be a nice sleeper UFA pick up much like Marcus was a few years ago.

Re: free agent linebackers ,who should we go for in terms of depth or a starter?
only inside guy i see worth even making a (small) offer to is brad kassell (jets).
you've pointed out a lot of good cheap LBs, which are always generally available (and hence my aversion to paying a 3rd high dollar LB or drafting them in the 1st round ever). torbor might be worth a look too. interesting name on that list - terrel suggs. maybe a change back to DE for a STUD pass rusher? just dreaming, but that's a guy that's young AND good... |

Re: free agent linebackers ,who should we go for in terms of depth or a starter?
I doubt Boss would come to DC. Champ has never said anything positive about the organization since leaving.
I'd like to see Dan Morgan signed as a backup. He's good for a game or two if Fletcher gets hurt. He's a really good player but with his history of injuries he'll never be a starter in the NFL again. I'd wait until June 1 to get some depth on outside but would use a 6 or 7 round to get some help as well as undrafted rookies. There are so many available OLB's and I think even more will get cut after some rookies on other teams have good camps.
