Possible Strike Next Season? (Updated ESPN Article-3/12/08)

I never knew that both sides have an opt out clause in the current CBA that can be exercised until November 2008:

ESPN - Upshaw ready for strike if NFL owners opt out of labor agreement - NFL

That would be horrendous. I just read that article myself and can't come up with a single thing I would do next Fall during the weekends.

How the hell is any team in the NFL "cash strapped"? Isn't running an NFL team the most guaranteed investment in all of sports?

I seriously doubt that there will be a strike next season or any other time. The league has got a great thing going right now and to mess it up with labor issues would be silly.

I could see the small market teams like Cinn, Jack and Buff having a tough time making money. Buff is already trying to move to Toronto.

Especially Jacksonville, they can't draw flies even with an up and coming team in their midst.

They are def losing money. If you watch one of their homes games they put a big black cover over 20,000 unsold seats. They put the cover over it so it looks like there are no empty seats. I remember hearing a story on ESPN about it.

They're smarter than that. They aren't striking.

There are a few other teams that have seating sections and say there sold out when there not,the seats are just to exspensive and people won't spend the money to go.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the possibility of a strike. This will definitely be a story to keep an eye on next season.

From what Ive heard Jacksonville isn't an expensive place to see a game. They're trying to get people in seats hard. It's not like going to any NFC East stadium, people in Florida are basically shitty sports fans. Probably because 1/4 of their population is on death's doorstep.
