Skins D?

With Blache's increased role and of course the departure of Greg Williams, does anyone believe the Defense that Greg Williams put forth will still stay intact since Blache coached under his D for 4 years? I am assuming that if the Skins sign a defensive minded head coach that Blache will just have to change style to fit in with what D the head coach wants. I myself hope we keep our 4-3 style of defense. This is what the players are used to. Any opinions?

Well, I believe its a good indication that we are (finally) taking a defensive lineman in the draft.

We will run the 4-3.

You mean like first or second round?

Yeah, that's what I meant. Either or, as opposed to digging around in the late rounds for another Montgomery.

I don't think we can say definitively here in January that the 21st pick will be used on a defensive lineman, but the front office certainly knows of our need there and Blache would likely push for it since that is his forte.

Yeah, I think that the fact it is his forte makes it less likely. We've seen what he can do with late picks and free agents on the line so the thinking may be to continue that philosophy in terms of drafting linemen.

Well, he has had that man crush on Phillip Daniels for about 9 years now...

Late picks on the defensive line tend to be able to be solid contributors, and Montgomery is certainly that, but what this line needs so very dearly is the explosiveness that only the highest rated prospects have.

We also need a corner pretty badly, as well as an interior offensive lineman, and I think Cerrato will weigh all his options. In my opinion, it was Williams who always thought he could get away with a mediocre line, and I thought Williams did a great job in coming up with a scheme that understood that the line was it's weakness.

But now with Blache in charge, it makes sense that he would try to replace some of the less explosive, elderly players on the line. Not all at one time, but gradually over the next 2-3 years.

If Cerrato is in the "we need a DL camp", he's going to get no opposition from Blache, that's for sure.

Re: Skins D?

Well Glenn Dorsey (LSU) is out there and the MIami Dolphins have said they are "open for business" to hear offers for that overall #1 pick.

There is a lot of buzz that Dallas wants the #1 pick to take RB, Darren McFadden, so maybe all the Skins need to do is get the #2 pick in order to get Dorsey.

So, what is it worth to you to move up to get Glenn Dorsey?

Let's be realistic and not try to propose Brandon Lloyd and Nemo and a sixth round pick as the trade. It's going to cost more than that.

Interested?

He's probably worth this year's first and next year's first.

I'm not quite as high on Dorsey as I was on Okoye last year because there will be another Glenn Dorsey, but there will never be another Okoye. With that said, we have a huge need for what Dorsey offers, so I'd trade up at a reasonable price.

The draft pick points chart is becoming really outdated because no longer can you assume that the teams at the top of the draft are getting exponentially more help than the ones at the bottom. If they want 2600 points of value for the No. 2 pick, we shouldn't give it to them, but if we can buy it with just two first rounders, and keeping the rest of the picks, I'd then say it'd be worth it.

Re: Skins D?

i don't like the idea of trading up in the draft. stay at 21 and take the best defensive player available.

Re: Skins D?

I don't think we'll see much change at all. For the continuity buffs this should be a very good thing.

Re: Skins D?

I say at this point take Limas Sweed in the first round then use the second and third round to take the best available D-lineman and O-Lineman.

Ok I like history. So lets go with WR Monk and go after Manley Jr. I was looking up his size and weight and speed and he is 2 inch smaller then the top DE but he weights slightly heavier and is just as fast speed wise.

Interested? Yes! Realistic? No! I dont see any way that we can trade for that pick and not take a hit for losing a big player,

Dallas has 2 running backs. Why mcfadden? He will be a terriffic player but then they have 3 decent backs.
