Strength of Schedule note

At the end of the regular season, the team with the strongest SOS was... the Philadelphia Eagles. Second was the Washington Redskins.

Which makes sense. After all, we got to play the Eagles twice, while they had to play the Redskins.

I believe this is yet another reason to be proud of the NFC East. Three in the playoffs, the two strongest schedules in the league, all four schedules in the top ten (Giants at #6, Dallas at #10)... it's turning into the proving ground it was in the 1980's.

And meanwhile we're facing the Seahawks who had one of the easiest schedules in the league facing off against the likes of the Rams, Cardinals and 49ers. You really have to wonder how they would have done in a division like the NFC East.

Re: Strength of Schedule note

Nice info here! I knew our strength of schedule was high, but had no idea that we had the 2nd hardest schedule in the league.

Re: Strength of Schedule note

Interesting fact.

I thought this might pad our offensive and defensive rankings on pro football outsiders. Here's how they rank our respective units:

Team Defense adjusted ranking :
#6 in the league.
7th against the pass
11th against the run

Team Offense:
#24 in the league
Pass rank : 12th
Rush rank: 23rd

from: FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Football analysis and NFL stats for the Moneyball era - Authors of Pro Football Prospectus 2007

I think it's important to note that our defense is playing the best it has been at the right time of the year. Going into the playoffs, I think we've got the ability to win a couple of games. You can't help but get excited...

Right? That's a bunch of crap. Why does that seem to happen so much. The AFC South and NFC East and both PACKED with competition and talent but most of the other divisions are basically one good team lumped in the 3 bad ones, save the AFC North.

Bring on the Seahawks. When we played them in '05 in the Playoffs we lost that game because we had exactly ZERO offense. Going 3 and out in less that 15 seconds of game time is crap. If our defense plays as well as they have been, we generate turnovers and our offense works they way it has lately, then Seattle is SUNK.

Ship it.

The truth is, the Seahawks have the most cumulative wins of any team in the NFC since 2003! They are 51-29, or a winning percentage of .638. Unfortunately, the Redskins are only 35-45 in that same time frame, or a winning percentage of .438. I think the only team in the NFL that has won more games at home than the Seahawks during that time is the Colts.

Not so fast Matty. I know in '05 we were saying the same thing, and look how that played-out for us. Our team needs to respect their capabilities, because they can hurt us. If somehow we can defeat the hawks and take-out the cowboys during the next round. I really like our chances against tampa, greenbay or new york. How sweet would that be? I know, let's focus one game at time. HTTR

While I agree that you shouldn't be "punished" for the schedule you're given, can't a lot of that be attributed to the competition, or lack thereof, in the AFC West? Or would you say that the rest of the division is so poor because the Seahawks have been so good rendering the rest virtually helpless?

That's what happens with a powderpuff schedule.

Look at who y'all play Rams, 49ers & Cards and true they are make improvement but come on we would 51-29 if we were in the NFC West. Plus I doubt the Chickenhawks could last in the NFC East just the best division in the NFL. The Chickenhawks and Pats should make the playoffs every year!!!

Re: Strength of Schedule note

Why is it when another teams fan comes on and uses factual numbers they always use the numbers that make them look better? Why start with 2003? Is that when the NFC West started to suck and the Seahawks started playing well? Why not start with when the Seahawks were started? I'm not sure of the numbers but start from there and you can even use the Redskins numbers from the same time frame and see what you get then.
Any team can beat any other team on any given Sunday/Sat. Thats why you got beat by the Cardinals. It's why we played close with Miami. No one knows who will win Sat. but fans will always argue for their team. Yes the Seahawks have weapons as does the Redskins. I would rather have a team that has played hard games all year in a hard division and had to play hard to get into the play-offs then have a team that has played mediocre teams all year and skated into the play-offs. How do you know what you team is made of? How do you know your team will play hard ball when your team has not played hardball all year?
I keep hearing crowd noise. Yes your stadium is load....but there are other stadiums that are loud also. These are professionals. they will make accomidations. It only hurts your changing of plays at the line of scrimage. If your not changing anything then who cares.
Your pass rush. Yes it's good however we went up against the best in Minni and NY and still played well.
Oh....why is everyone singling out Portis? the Seahawks always talk about how it's all Portis and we will stop him. We have a tandem also. What about Bett? See Portis is finess and edge runner. Betts is a run it up the middle slam you in your face kinda guy.
and how could I forget Sellers running over the Lions.lol.
Yes our QB has not played in any playoff games....oh wait our last 3 games were basically playoff games so yes he has. Worse yet he has been in this system for 10 yrs. He's not a rookie like JC. If JC was in as QB I would say yes you have a great chance of frustrating him and winning the game. To bad he's hurt. lol.
I'm just being a fan also. anyone can win Sat. good luck and Seatle may the best team win. and who ever wins the NFC may they dissappoint the NE Patriots in the SB. lol.

Well, you do want it to be somewhat recent. The 1987 Seahawks' record have no bearing on the quality of the 2007 Seahawks.

But yeah, 2003 does conveniently fit the Hawks getting good.
