Exclamation nfl should waive the 5 year waiting period

and induct sean taylor into the hall of fame.i know he only played almost 4 seasons, but if he would have kept playing i have no doubt he would have one day made it into the hall of fame.he's the best safety the skins have had since ken houston in the 1970s,and the best i have seen since ronnie lott
came into the league.there is no telling what you all will say over this but
there was a running back that was drafted by the cleveland browns in the 1960s that never played a down for them and died of leukemia and he's in the hall.surely sean taylor belongs there!!!!when i was a kid,and roberto clementie
died mlb waived the waiting period and inducted him.i say the nfl needs to do it in this case...........

I do believe that if Sean had played and been healthy for at least another 4-5 years he would have easily made it first ballot. I would love to see him in the HOF but I just don't think it will happen. Also Roberto Clemente and Sean Taylor are completely different stories and completely different circumstances.

Unfortunately ST did not get his chance to earn his way into the HF.

Re: nfl should waive the 5 year waiting period

I have no doubt that Taylor would have put together a solid HOF resume had he played 4 or 5 more years, however, I can't see electing a guy who played less than 4 years, no matter how good. Taylor had the greatest skills of any safety I've ever seen, but until this season, he was still making mistakes and missing tackles. This season, he was playing better free safety than any other player - by a wide margin. Since he was hurt against Philly, we've been burned down the middle consistently. Hell, if Taylor was out there yesterday, he blows up Josh Reed on the pass that set up the winning Buffalo FG.

HOF talk aside, Sean Taylor should be officially inducted into the Redskins Ring of Honor. I would suggest doing it at next season's home opener to allow his family to mourn their loss for now.

Well he really isn't a HOFer but a player becomes eligible when he dies regardless of the 5year ruile.

dan hampton was a huge what if,and that sos is in the hall.ST did more for the game than he did.when mlb inducted clemente he had just been killed in a plane crash delivering supplies to earth quake survivors in managua.he would have made it on his merits though.my fault.st deserves to be there more than some of the other members do!!!

You are talking about the guy from Syracuse that the Redskins traded for Bobby Mitchell... and he is not in the hall of fame.

Hasn't this already been covered in another thread?

ditto what most people said...simply died too young to qualify for the hall. shame. He'll be in our ring of honor, i think.

Re: nfl should waive the 5 year waiting period

I loved Sean and am still grieving his loss, but...

Slow down.

Given time in this league, I have no doubt Taylor would be in the Hall of Fame. The same could be said for Bo Jackson, who was Adrian Peterson/Reggie Bush/LaDanian Tomlinson all stacked up into one badass. Who broke his hip. And stopped playing. And didn't impact the game for long enough to live up to his potential.

Clemente is an argument for shortening the wait, but Clemente was definitely in, he had 3000 hits. Taylor was in his fourth year, and wouldn't have made the Pro Bowl in any of his first three years except for injuries (that's not to say he didn't deserve it, it just didn't happen).

Re: nfl should waive the 5 year waiting period

It's a nice thought but it isn't going to happen. S.T was a great safety. But he just didn't get to play long enough.

Who and what proof of his induction? The Giants back in the 70's lost a player named Troy Archer(car accident)..........he was one great athlete but he's not in the Hall nor should he be.............it must be earned.

Re: nfl should waive the 5 year waiting period

Sean was a great player and will no doubt be missed but he simply didn't play long enough or accomplish enough to warrant Hall of Fame induction..
