team hard to take

is there anyone out there , that thought going into the latter stages of the 4 th quarter of that game who thought the skins would win even though they were in front ... i didnt i honestly whew they would lose by the one point after the fieldgoal that the bills would eventually kick, this team is really hard to watch , its the same crap week after week , no learning curve with this bunch , hang on to tiny leads and blow it at the end of games , i never really post , but always read the forums , someone most of the time says it for me, but this was just maddening , this team has no friggin heart , some game to honor your lost teamate , same crap different week , joe gibbs i thing after seeing this latest of many flubs , is not an answer , i mean three straight running plays, after you couldnt run all day at a time when they absolutly knew you were going to run, an they stacked the line is just plain dumb, all i do is shake my head , coach in the wings williams is not going to do it and he is the next coach , its in the books , salary cap hell ... these days its not so fun being a skins fan

Yea this team is just not any good under pressure, when we get leads we always let it slip, thats bad coaching, i love gibbs but he needs out! WHO replaces him though? BILL COWER?

Re: team hard to take

Looking at things objectively, the Skins should have lost to the Jets, and very well could have lost to Miami in the opener. The 5-3 start was a mirage. The team continually makes mistakes to give games away.

Let's objectively look at the bigger picture of Gibbs 2.0. Throw out a 5 week stretch to close out 2005, and this team is consistently below average. I like their effort on most counts but this team is not the "supersmart" team that Gibbs likes to aspire to. And that starts from the coaching staff down.

Re: team hard to take

Part of this post is my own thoughts and part not my own (to be explained).

For myself, since Taylor's death I've given little thought to football or the Skins. Tuesday was one of the worst days in my memory, ever. I did not watch the game today for two reasons: too much emotion overall, and because I knew the let down would be enormous, which leads me to the part of the post not really me talking.

Last week I met a guy who's been a Skins fan longer than I've been alive. He's followed every era of the team and knows every detail. He told me he can't stand to watch any longer because the disappointment is so huge. He said part of the disappointment is w/ Gibbs but it goes beyond any one man.

I don't know whether I'll watch another game this year. There is something so wrong it actually seems too big to really grasp. I love a lot of the individual players and the team legacy, but it's just too much.

Re: team hard to take

this sucks. I don't think i'll ever see a good skins team. Its not fair. This is the worst i've ever felt being a skins fan, and that is saying something. Obviously this week has been horrible. Lets just hope that we turn something around and play better in the coming weeks.

Were you around in 2003? We were straight up getting blown out in games. Do you prefer getting blown out and being the laughing stock of the league to losing close games? We should have a better record and the blame for not having one falls on the players' shoulders, the assistant coaches' shoulders, and, of course, on Gibbs' shoulders. But to think that this team is as bad or worse as the 2003 Spurrier team is simply incorrect IMO.

I feel you. I think we're around the same age. So we were really young when the Skins were a kickass team. And my biggest fear is that I'll croak before I get to see the Skins win a big one.

As much as I hate to say it, but sometimes I think I would rather see us lose by a little bit more. Or at least trail at halftime when we lose. It's just so hard to take it when you are winning the whole game and then you lose it in the last 10-15 seconds.

I understand the sentiment; losing games you should win hurts big. But, I wouldn't trade this season for 2003 in a million years. I distinctly remember teams actually laughing at how bad we were. We can't win games we should (the hallmark of a good team), but we're not pathetic. We just can't close games (again, the hallmark of a good team).

I am also including my favorite redskin dying in the fact that this is the worst i've ever felt. I feel sick and am in unbelievably bad mood. I don't even want to talk to my best friends. I think i'll get pissed off at something not worth it. I just feel like going to sleep. This is absolutely horrible.

I have no doubt that the Skins will be good again someday. That said, I believe the greatest mistake of the way this team was built early in Gibbs 2.0 was putting more emphasis on glitzy skill position players than the men in the trenches that were so valued during Gibbs 1.0. "Gibbs football" values running the football on offense and stoping the run on defense. To do both consistently, more emphasis must be placed on drafting young studs.

Although the team is mediocre and inconsistent, they do play hard and are competitive every game. Keep the faith - someday, they'll put it together. Just probably not during this season of injury and heartbreak.

Re: team hard to take

I love Joe Gibbs and I love John Riggins, but their time has come and gone. Jayson needs to grow, our defense needs to put pressure on QB's and we need to finish the game.
I have never been so dispondent in the 4th quarter. I have always felt we had a chance. If it is close in the 4th quarter I expect to loose. Say what you will, but we do it time and again.
Ok hammer away.
