Calvin Johnson a bust?
402 yards on only 24 receptions, and 3 tds. People predicted him to be well over 1000 yards, 70+ receptions and close to 10 td's.
He's had a lot of drops this year too. Bust or not?

Re: Calvin Johnson a bust?
Nah, far too early to call him a bust plus he's been injured..

While I am not going to call his career a bust, his rookie season is certainly a bust considering his high expectations.

Re: Calvin Johnson a bust?
i was in the minority when i said the skins should pass on Johnson if he was available. while it is way too early to call anyone a bust, he hasn't made the impact that some around thought.

Re: Calvin Johnson a bust?
I agree, and if you recall, I was with you in thinking we should pass as well.

Can you say Kitna and a porous offensive line? I know he dropped a few but just wait.

Re: Calvin Johnson a bust?
Hell no he's not a bust. It usually takes at least a season or 2 before a wide receiver really starts to come into his own. Look at Braylon Edwards, he was drafted 3 years ago and he has finally jsut now become an elite receiver. Give him time, he could easily be the best receiver in football in a couple of years.

Re: Calvin Johnson a bust?
No, Roy Williams is playing pretty good, Shaun McDonald has stepped up pretty big, and Mike Furrey is getting balls thrown to him. The Lions are spreading the ball and for a rookie 402 yards thus far isn't bad and there are 5 more games to go. Not every rookie WR can step up and ball. If Johnson ends up with 700 yards and 5 TDs that's a pretty good first season if you ask me.
In their first seasons: Jerry Rice - 927 yards and 3 TDs. TO - 520 yards and 3 TDs. Marvin Harrison - 836 yards and 8 TDs. Reggie Wyne - 345 yards and 0 TDs. ...and so on, and so on. You won't find too many WR who tore it up in their first season in the NFL (Randy Moss seems to be the lone exception I can recall). If Johnson works hard in the upcoming off-season he is going to destroy DBs (ala jump ball football).

Re: Calvin Johnson a bust?
Typically WRs take a while to bloom, just the way that position is. Rarely you'll get someone like Randy Moss to light it up, but typically they're not quick on things like that.

Re: Calvin Johnson a bust?
Not worth the 2nd pick. It's been awhile to say the least since a receiver has justified being taken 2nd overall.

Re: Calvin Johnson a bust?
I was never sold on Johnson. I even got into trouble about my sig regarding Johnson before the draft.
I love it when I turn out to be right. I do think that Detroit was a good spot for him to land. He is going to have the best opportunity to be successful there. However, as far as this season is concerned he is pretty much the non factor that I suspected he would be. |

Re: Calvin Johnson a bust?
this is rediculous. it always takes WR a little longer to become great. he will be dominate in 2 years. a T.O. -randy moss type reciever.
