Bidding on final 1948 Redskins Card I need
I placed a bid today on the #99 Harry Gilmer card I need that would complete the 1948 Redskins Bowman Set I have which include the Holy Grail of football cards the Sammy Baugh Rookie Card.
The #99 card is what is called a "Short Print" and is acutally more rare than the Sammy Baugh card. I usually see this card for anywhere between $50 - $100. I'll try and get the card but my budget won't allow me to pay top dollar and I see one of the other bidders spends an average of Hundreds on single cards so if he really wants it ho can out bid me but maybe he doesn't want this card much. 1948 BOWMAN #99 HARRY GILMER RC SP REDSKINS PSA 5 - (eBay item 200173868773 end time Nov-21-07 19:00:00 PST) This might be an early Christmas present to myself. lol Wish me luck boys! Hail Skins mike

Which one is Sammy Baugh? Wasn't he #33? If so, I don't see a 33 there.

Tho Sammy had been drafted in 1937 by the Washington Redskins and had been wearing the #33 that we all know.Seems he had put on his old TCU jersey with the #45 on it for this shot. The card is called his "Rookie Card" but he had been on the Redskins for 11 years or so. That's kinda funny. lol Notice also how most cards all look the same except the "Short Prints"? You see them all squared up with the camera in all but 4 cards. The Sammy Baugh Card, John Sanchez, Dainiel Sandifer and Harry Gilmer cards are all "action" shots and photo'd at a different time and style.

Re: Bidding on final 1948 Redskins Card I need
lol
Someone already out bid me so it's stratagy time. I will not make another bid on it until the final 20-30 minutes of the auction and have a set high price in my head and bid. If I get it I do if not I'll keep looking tho I did tell myself earlier this year I wanted this card for Christmas and I did just refinance my house and am flush with cash....hmmmmm? lol

Re: Bidding on final 1948 Redskins Card I need
I agree. I wait till the last few minutes and throw what would be my High Final Bid.
I also size up who I am bidding against. I look at their history to see if they spend big money and if they are collecting or a dealer fishing for deals on anything. The guy with the 14 rating I see doesn't spend over what he has bid and has items from many teams and player. Could be a dealler. Another gut who bid has over 600 deals and drops $200-$400 on a single card all the time. I will have no chance if that boy wants the card. I'll know Wednesday night and letcha know as well. Thanks for the tips mike

Best of luck SBF. I cherish my 1948 team set. If you win it are you going to crack the PSA case?

I have to touch and enjoy all my cards. They are mine and not to be resold. So I touch and read them all once and then put in cases or sleeves. You have a complete 1948 Bowman's Redskins Set?

Re: Bidding on final 1948 Redskins Card I need
I didn't get it but that's ok. For that amount I want a slightly haigher quality card.
I'll get one before the year is up. Hail Skins
