Shawn Springs quietly having a good season
Since i haven't seen much said about Sean Springs lately, he is having an excellent season. As a defense you can basically put him on one side and he'll shut it down. I know how much he means to GW. Exhibit A...see last year. Do we sign him to a contract in the offseason? W/out doing my homework...his deal is up, right? Considering his injury history and age what do you do? I think you've got to try to keep him. Injuries are a concern but he also has shown he can play through alot of them and play effectively.
BTW...maybe we'll save this for another time, but you also have another guy named ST back there, that we might want to rework before he hits the market. I know this is in-season but worth mentioning. |

Re: Sean Springs quietly having a good season
We are a better defense with SHAWN on the field without a doubt!
With CR done for the season if springs can stay healthy, he will be a very important part of our D.

Re: Sean Springs quietly having a good season
He is signed through 2009 but the problem is his numbers are like 7mil each yaer and he was unwilling to rework his contract this year. ST is signed until 2010 so we have plenty of time with him but it would be nice to have a deal struck before 2010 so that not an issue.

Carlos' injury is potentially huge, because if he's not ready for the start of 2008 we may need to keep Springs when otherwise we weren't planning to. Personally, I hope he stays anyway

I think it will take some some of restructure to keep him here. I don't see us keeping him at his current figures.

Re: Shawn Springs quietly having a good season
I would like to see Springs finish his career here. He is by far our best CB...if we lose him we'll probably draft a CB with our first round pick.

Re: Shawn Springs quietly having a good season
Maybe, but I think it's a foregone conclusion that Rogers and Smoot are going to be our starting corners next year. While we definitely will need to bring in another competent CB to replace Springs next year when he becomes a cap casualty (or very possibly could retire), I don't see us spending a day one pick there. We still need DL help, we really need OL help, and another elite offensive skill player couldn't hurt.

Additionally, teams tend to release big name veteran corners who they believe are "done", but they are just guessing at that. As far as bringing in a guy for the nickel, that could work for this team. In fact, is that not how we got Springs in the first place?

Re: Shawn Springs quietly having a good season
I'd rather draft a killer pass rushing DE if one is still available. Generating consistent pressure with a great rusher makes average CB's look very solid. Then again, Rogers' injury may dictate that we add another CB early in the draft of via free agency if Springs departs.

Re: Shawn Springs quietly having a good season
yea i've been wAtching a decent amount of college this year and theres no doubt we can get a solid #3 CB in the 3rd round..
1st pick should be a crazy DE. .... second we should either go CB or a big WR ..... then i see them getting an OL late in the draft, possibly even a LB... cuz i think washington will be done soon...

springs always plays well. The only problem he ever has is staying on the field.

Re: Shawn Springs quietly having a good season
would love to get a legit DE or a stud olineman. We should had use a supplemental pick on that guy from MD like the ravens did.

I agree but why does the thread have a "thumbs down"?

Re: Shawn Springs quietly having a good season
It's harder for Springs to be as noticable, because we have Smoot and Rogers as well. Now that we dont have Rogers, Springs will make a difference.
