Tony McGee on New England Patriots Game

Hello Everyone,

What a game to come off of....The worst loss of Joe Gibbs career, was nothing pretty to watch. I think some of the players quit towards the end of the game as well. As for specifics, everyone played bad enough to deserve some blame. Jason needs to learn to play and be hit without fumbling the football. He certainly has a fumbling problem, and it has shown over the last two seasons. With that being said, I didn't like the defensive game plan going into the game anymore than I did the offensive game plan. I said last week they had to come out and try to punch them in the mouth, and they didn't do that. They were so concerned about stopping the deep pass (one play that comes to mind was Fletcher all the way deep with Randy Moss, although he did a great job on the play)...because they were so concerned with just stopping the big plays, Tom Brady got to sit in a rocking chair and make his decisions. You cannot give any quarterbacks that much time, much less someone like Tom Brady. In a nutshell, they were outplayed, outcoached and some guys quit at the end.

I still think Campbell as a whole has played very well this year, he is ahead of schedule in my opinion. People still have to understand how young this kid is, and he's done better than most would have up to this point. However, he needs to learn to control the turnovers. No team can give up four turnovers, much less all coming from the quarterback position. The coaches are being very cautious with him, and not throwing too much at him. I think if they threw him a little bit more they would be pleasently surprised, and it would open up the running game.

As far as if it is easier to harder to get over a blowout loss...I have never personally been involved in one that was quite that bad, but I have been in some bad ones and they're equally tough to get over. Any loss is hard to get over. When you put in an effort all week, its equally bad no matter if you lose by 1 or 100. Losses like that can do one of two things…. either jumpstart a season, or it can kill a season. We will know what it did to the Redskins this Sunday at 1pm. you're playing a 1-7 team, with a new quarterback and a chip on their shoulders, so it could be a scary game for the Skins.

Now the issue with running up the score, I'll make it clear. When you're a pro, you don't run up the score, you score and keep scoring to win. You can do whatever you want. The Washington Redskins had three hours to stop the New England Patriots from scoring and they didn’t do it, bottom line. I have no problems with it. That being said, if they keep doing it that way, someone is going to get hurt and they're taking a risk. They are not trying to fool anyone though, they are going to break you down and tell you that you cant play with them. Now if you really break the game down, you can find ways to show that it was more Washingtons mistakes that let the game get so out of hand. The Skins' turn the ball over four times, 24 points. Three overthrows by the Redskins could be 21 points in the long run, and you add that up and suddenly its a closer football game. That game was won and lost on the big plays, and I think Indianapolis might be able to take advantage that.

At the cornerback position, Springs is still the Redskins best cover guy and in my opinion, #2 was still a toss up between Smoot and Rogers. They both tend to get beat with certain moves, and Rogers missed some big tackles this year. They will miss the depth at corner, especially with the injury problems to Smoot. However, if everyone is healthy, I think Smoot can do just as good of a job as Carlos. In addition, it won't matter if Champ Bailey was still back there if they can't get some pressure on the quarterback, because they have far too long to sit back there and throw the football.

Finally, this Sunday, the Redskins simply need to go in and take control of the game from the opening kick. Do not let the Jets get into the game and think that they have a chance to win. They need to run the ball more effectively by stretching out the field early and stretching it out at least once a quarter. Let Campbell throw some deep balls to loosen up the linebackers and allow the rushing game to be better. If they can pressure the quarterback, stretch the field and run the ball effectively, this game will be a piece of cake.

Ha, I've actually been between jobs for about the last month. I start a new job on monday, but the stock your going to want to avoid when I type this up there next week is Paychex.

The stock you would have wanted to stay away from over the summer was Clear Channel Radio.
