what is up with the fantasy busts from studs?

Take a look at the numbers of the top fantasy draft picks this year: (rankings were actual pre draft rankings, and I will only pick on the top 20 at each position)

RBS
1- L. Tomlinson- 3gm, 130yrds, 1td rush. 14rec, 99 yds, 1td rec. (1 pass td)
2- S. Jackson- 3gm, 233yrds, 0td rush. 8rec, 57yds, 0td rec. (torn groin)
3- L. Johnson- 3gm, 140yrds, 0td rush. 11rec, 71yds, 0td rec.
4- F. Gore- 3gm, 175yds, 3td rush. 5rec, 37yds, 0td rec. (only 175 yrds?)
6- S. Alexander- (just found a broken bone in his hand)
7- W. Parker- 16 tds in 06, on pace for only 5 tds this year.
9- R. Johnson- 3gm, 177yds, 0td rush. 8rec, 92yds, 1td rec.
10- L. Maroney- 3gm, 252yds, 0td rush. 0rec, 0yds, 0td rec.
12- R. Bush- 3gm, 80yds, 2tds rush. 16rec, 70yds, 0td rec.
15- C. Benson- 3gm, 189yds, 1td rush. 3rec, 28yds, 0td rec.
17- M. Jones-Drew- 3gm, 100yds, 0td rush. 6rec, 56yds, 0td rec.
18- D. McAllister- 3gm, 92yds, 0td rush. 4rec, 14yds, 0td rec. (out for season)

WR
6- L. Evans- 5rec, 29yds, 0tds.
9- L. Fitzgerald- 15rec, 192yds, 0tds.
15- R. Brown- 5rec, 64yds, 0tds.
20- D. Jackson- 11rec, 166yds, 0tds.

QBS
4- D. Brees- 677yds, 1td, 7int.
5- M. Bulger- 651yds, 2td, 3int.
10- M. Vick- doesn't play well with dogs
16- J.P.Losman- 255yds, 0td, 1int.
17- M. Leinart- 454yds, 2td, 3int.
18- J. Cutler- 795yds, 3td, 4int.
20- R. Grossman- 500yds, 1td, 6int.

TE'S (top 10)
2- J. Shockey- 0 tds.
3- T. Gonzalez- 0 tds.
5- C. Cooley- 6rec, 54yds, 2td. (nice TD total, but poor rec and yds)
8- V. Davis- 8rec, 83yds, 0td. (everyone's sleeper is still sleeping)

Re: what is up with the fantasy busts from studs?

It has been sort of a weird year so far. Anecdotally, it also seems that there have been a lot more points scored overall in the leagues I am in, if not by some of the top players you mention. Last week I scored 161 in a traditional (not point per reception) league thanks to Boldin, Roy Williams, and Brian Westbrook (plus I started Jason Campbell over Phillip Rivers so I left another 14 points on the bench). Palmer had 6 tds last week, Chad Johnson has been killing it, Romo, Witten, et al. are scoring like crazy. Points are going up, most seem to be coming through the air though, and I've got to believe it will even out by the end of the year.

I'm not sure about Brees getting on track, though, and he certainly isn't going to replicate last season (or even his two previous seasons in San Diego in all likelihood). Brees is the one that really surprises me. LJ had a lot of question marks going in (curse of 370, no QB, bad oline, etc.) LT has had a LOT of touches the past two years as well, though I didn't see this dip coming and don't think it will continue. Lee Evans is completely unpredictable (even more than most WRs) since so many of his yards come from deep passes (remember he had like two 200+ yard games in the middle of last season that really boosted his numbers and he wasn't doing much during the first half last year either). Phillip Rivers struggled early last year and came on to have a good season, Romo did not start until almost mid-way through the year last season, etc. Like most things, you've just got to keep a little perspective. I will agree, though, that some of those numbers have been surprising.

Yeah, I'm waiting for a few things to work out for me. Stephen Jackson needs to get it going. And I need strange things, such as in 3 of 7 leagues have Kevin Curtis starting against me... I mean, wow.

Very strange year for fantasy.

S Jackson is just killing me!

I think SJ is out this week with a torn groin.

Yeah Brees is killing me too. This week was the last straw. It's Roethlesberger from here on out.

Jordan was playing injured last year, now he's healthy.

I'm just mad at myself for not trying to trade Jackson right after I heard that Pace would be out for the season. The though crossed my mind but I didn't act on it and now it's going to cost me some games! Damn it all!

Re: what is up with the fantasy busts from studs?

My woes:
S. Jackson - No line, could be out an extended period
A. Green - Knee problems again
M. Jones-Drew - 13 TDs last year ... jack squat this year
D. Williams - When will D. Foster go down? This will probably be the year he doesn't
Andre Johnson - Injured again
Calvin Johnson - Except Roy Williams, the Lions can't draft a good WR who can stay healthy

My only bright spots are:
Chad Johnson, Chris Chambers, Vikes D, and maybe V. Young.

Oh well. Another year down the drain.

No big shocker on Green though. I do think Foster is just a bananna peel away from the DL!
Andre Johnson has been pretty healthy through his career. He only missed 3 games back in 05, but has been in every game otherwise his entire career.
Roy Williams on the other hand only had one fully healthy season and that was last year.
Did you pick you Leonard to back up Jackson?

Re: what is up with the fantasy busts from studs?

I'm feeling the pain too - I have both Steven Jackson and Laurence Maroney, neither of whom has a TD thru 3 games and Jackson is out with a torn groin. I do have T.O. and Plaxico at WR but stud RB's are usually money in the bank - I guess not this year :confused-

Re: what is up with the fantasy busts from studs?

I'm in 3 leagues and so far my records are 0-3, 1-2 and 3-0.

On my 3-0 team I took Palmer and Westbrook as my first two picks and they've been money so far.

The thing that sucks with fantasy is there's not much room for error when it comes to your studs. If 1-2 of them are stinking it up or get hurt, you're really screwed.

LOL!!!! I have Jackson too. I'm in a 4 player keeper league and I drafted him as a rookie. He is a little pussy. Talking all that 2,000 yard shit and he aint doing a damn thing except nursing his groin. But at least I have Brady picking up the slack for me. Brees is just dog poop.

Re: what is up with the fantasy busts from studs?

My one yahoo league has me in first place at 3-2. Which you know when I am in first place, then it's a weird and sucky fantasy year.
