Re: Week 2 Statistical rankings

2 weeks in, I like it. We played some tough Defenses. Are offense will go on a rampage when we face teams like the Lions and hopefully the Giants this weekend. This year it seems like are D is going by the "Bend don't Break theory and I'll take it. Was I only one who saw our great Bump and Run coverage????? Where did that come from??? Macklin also held his own, then we add Smoot. The D looks good

Didn't we give one up at the end of the first half against the Dolphins?

Re: Week 2 Statistical rankings

The two 3rd down statistics are the important ones.

Our offense is predicated on using all three downs- high percentage passes and lots of running plays. Convert the third and we're wearing out the D.

3rd down stops is self-explanatory.

Really the only thing I would like to see improve is our turnover ratio. We still don't have an interception this season.

It's a tribute to how well our defense has played that we have won two straight games in which we lost the turnover battle. We need to break the seal on the interceptions and the funbles. I remember in 2005 that we were in a similar predicament, but then once we started getting some they came in waves and we were getting 3 or 4 turnovers a game towards the end of that run. I worry that the bend but don't break strategy that they are using now will provide them with fewer opportunities, though. Turnovers are the result of pressure and this new approach doesn't put as much pressure on the opposing quarterbacks or receivers.

Re: Week 2 Statistical rankings

Someone said, I think it was Colin Cowherd, that the two most important stats for determining whether or not your team is primed for a playoff run is turnover ratio and 3rd down conversion percentage.

It was something like, if your team maintains 41% on 3rd downs for the year, there's a 70 or 80% chance you make it to the post season.

There will be a time when this team absolutely must have a critical takeaway in order to win the game. The Redskins have to break this drought of not getting turnovers if this season is worth anything.

Re: Week 2 Statistical rankings

It's becoming an unfortunate hallmark of Williams' tenure here - we just can't get the turnovers. Hopefully it will pick up this year, especially with a strong secondary.
