Fan Appreciation Day

Will anyone be going on the 7th for fan appreciation day? I'm traveling down from NY (upstate) and plan on being there early Saturday morning. I'd like to meet a couple of fans from here. I also hope I can get Arrington's autograph.

I drove over 400 miles, got there by 8:30 am and there were already 3000 people there. I probably would've enjoyed it more without the wife and kids to keep track of. We didn't get to see much as they really didn't practice in the morning. Then we were out in the car when Lavar addressed the crown (damn). I somehow missed Joe Gibbs addressing the crowd. To top it all off, while waiting to be let in to line up for autographs, my 2 yr. ol daughter had an accident (in her pants) and we had to take her back to the car to be changed. When I came back to get in line, there were already a couple thousand people in front of me. I started in line at the 90 yrd mark waiting for an autograph from Lavar (the main reason I went there in the first place) and got to within 10 yards before he decided he had enough and left. I was crushed, tired, sore and disappointed to the point I felt like crying. My day seemed like a total waste and I hope I can get tickets to a game this year to watch them win and erase (or hide) some bad memories.

Man I feel for ya. Two years ago I took my girlfriend up to Carlisle to catch an afternoon practice (a 3 hour one way drive). We left with enough time to get good seats and do a little sight seeing. Turns out, there was a huge accident on 81 and we got stuck in traffic for 3 hours - literally sitting on the interstate. We got to practice with 5 minutes left. I felt probably about the same way you did Saturday.

Hey skinznut, I feel for you. I was there and as a fan i didn't feel appreciated at all. My son stood in that mob for hours and when he got close to the front of portis' line, he left. It was a waste of a day, and i guarantee you i will never go back for fan day. No food, the PA system sucked, stand in line for hours to get an autograph and then the players get up and leave.

I think it was '99 when I last went to fan day. Camp was in Frostburg then and as a result had a lower fan attendance. At Frostburg, there was maybe 1000 people at fan appreciation day. They had a nice PA system, cheap Domino's pizza, and had it set up so that the players had to walk through the crowd (no ropes holding you back) in order to get to the dorms. They either had to sign autographs or push little kids out of the way. Being up there in the mountains, It was usually 10 degrees cooler and had more shade than Ashburn. I have many more fond memories of Frostburg than I do of Ashburn.

I wonder what the chances are of moving camp out of Redskins Park next year.

I imagine they'll have to do something about fan day at least, maybe move it to FedEx because of the huge turnout this year.

Well, my experience with Fan Day was a little different that the other posts. My girlfriend and I drove from Jersey City, NJ at 6:30 am and arrived in Asburn at 11:00am. I thought I had missed the morning workout but turned out it was canceled. So I enjoyed taking pictures with the Superbowl trophies, receiving a free Redskins hat and bag for signing up for a credit card and I bought 3 awesome hats for $10 and a gold polo shirt for the same price. It's funny, because under the tent, the sales items were much cheaper than up on the hill. The turnout was spectacular. I worked my way to the front of the railing to get the best pictures like a paparazzi. When Lavar Arrington, the cheerleaders, the marching band, Coach Gibbs and players arrived on the field I got a good look. I even shot pictures of Jon Jansen's wife and baby. I took a nice picture of Portis, McCants, Coles and Gardner catching the ball. When I finished shooting the players , I just walked over to the autograph line to have Fred Smoot sign my authenic jersey. I also took a picture with Smoot, James Thrash, Gari Scott, Scott Cloman and Walt Harris. I thougt overall, the planners of the event didn't pay to much attention to the itenerary they posted on the website or on the paper they handed out. It definitely tested our patience, but this was the return of the Lord of the Rings and I wasn't about to miss it for nothing. If you want me to post the pictures, please instruct me on how to do it.

It was packed but I had a great time. It was wayyyyy more organized than the Ravens version that I went to the day before. Met a bunch of players....Arrington, simon, Hasselback, Terrel, Taylor, Clemons, Samuels, Upshaw, Wynn, Mitchell, Thomas, Noble, Gardner....maybe because we snuck into the V.I.P. area.....Someone was saying that camp was going to be at William & Mary next year. That would be sweet I think I woiuld just take a week off and go to camp and Bush Gardens

Where'd you hear that? I heard Wizards camp might be in that general Williamsburg area, but I didn't hear anything about the Redskins
