Can You Catch a Cold From A Dog?

My dog sneezed in my face on Thursday. Friday I had the worst sinus infection of my life, I'm still getting over it 3 days later. My buddy at work thinks I'm nuts. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

My dog has sneezed in my face before but I never got a cold from it. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

"The common cold and influenza virus found in humans cannot be transmitted to a dog, and vice versa. Dogs do get colds and ailments similar to influenza; those sicknesses can’t be transmitted to humans."

From Ask Tony Anything: Can a DOG catch a cold from a human?

Well, clearly Tony doesn't know anything. Because I'm sick, and my damn dog caused it.

Re: Can You Catch a Cold From A Dog?

Maybe your dog had some dirty drool and it flew in your face and infected your sinuses? But I don't think you can transmit cold virus from dog to humans.

I've been working with dogs for over a year and it's common for them to sneeze and drool all over your face (any dog owner knows this). But I have yet to catch a cold from them.

It's possible that them sniffing around outside and put their nose where it shouldn't be, they picked up the virus or bacteria and it was in his nose, so when he sneezed it ended up on you.

nice. I actually just took my dog to the vet for his yearly shots and asked the vet. She told me that, no, people cannot catch a cold from a dog or any other animal because viruses are species specific. so that's that. It's strange though since I never get sick and that little bastard sneezed right in my face...

BTW- here's a pic of my infectious dog-

Yeah, this is the first one I've had and I couldn't be happier. Does yours stand on her back feet alot? Meeko does that constantly. And yeah, he drools alot... especially if I'm cooking bacon.
