Eagles/Ravens game
Anybody watch this? I thought the Eagles D looked like crap. It's a good thing they blitz a lot during the regular season because they can't play the base defense very well. Trotter is extremely slow. Jim Johnson really does a great job of putting him in the right spot because when he has to run to it, it takes a long time. They are all scheme. Player for player they don't match up that well. That's my take anyway.

Re: Eagles/Ravens game
they were very vanilla. but they are also very old on defense. i thought Trotter looked slow last season. but as long as they have those corners, and Dawkins back there, they will still be alright. and Jimmy Johnson doesn't get near the credit he deserves

Re: Eagles/Ravens game
That running back from Penn State that they drafted... looked horrible. No burst, no vision. I was really surprised.

The Ravens also looked very, very good, top-to-bottom.
Jared Gaither, can't believe they got what very well could be Ogden's replacement with a 5th rounder.

Re: Eagles/Ravens game
How about that REALLY cheap shot by the ravens lineback on the eagles punter?
It seemed extremely dirty and I'm shocked that it didn't start a huge fight. The guy from the ravens completely blindsided the punter, who was just sort of jogging down the field not paying attention. I know it's football and that the LB was trying to prove his toughness or whatever, but it was really a cheap shot on a guy who was jsut in there to kick the ball away.

AMD: Aren't the Ravens known for that kind of thing? It's one of the reasons I find it hard to ever root for them.

Re: Eagles/Ravens game
The Eagles definitely have a weakness when it comes to run defense, IMO. If they're going to get better, they need Broderick Bunkley to really step it up. Trotter is good at holding down the middle, but he can be too aggressive when he has to run sideline to sideline, and he often overpursues. I thought McGahee ran pretty well against them and I can see teams running on the Eagles with relative ease (including us).
I think their secondary will still be nasty though. Once McGahee exited the game, the Eagles did a pretty good job of forcing the Ravens into third and longs, they just didn't get off the field because they didn't bring the blitz on third down. They just dropped into coverage. You can bet they wouldn't take that approach during the regular season; they'll be bringing the noise with the blitz. The question is, if McGahee had stayed in the game, would the Eagles have even seen any 3rd and longs? Hard to say. They definitely need to stop the run better. But whether they do that or not, I still like their chances at generating lots of turnovers. They'll be a force, unfortunately.
