Taylor is prone to making mistakes, but his hitting ability makes up for his shortcomings. The Redskins have vowed to shape their defense around his strengths and are confident he'll cut down on his coverage lapses.
It seems like everyone thinks that Taylor is going to have a huge year because of the way the D will work.
I'd love to see him turn into a freaky Ed Reed-Rodney Harrison combo that will hit WRs so hard that the ball pops up int he air where he'll recover it for a TD at least once a game. Might be possible.

Other notables: 2 Chargers players who have tested positive for performance enhancers made the list (Merriman was #1 and Castillo was #9)

I honestly don't think Castillo is a pill popper. I heard the reason he took steroids was because he was injured and he wanted to rush to get healthy. I think he's one of the top young defensive tackles in the league. Idk what to think about Merriman, on one hand he's a great young linebacker, but he did take steroids, and if he gets suspended again for roids then I won't like him at all, but if it was one of those one time mistakes (like Julius Peppers) then I would give him my approval.

This just isn't true.

Taylor, though, however holds one of the keys to the defense. He's got the ability to improve it, not the other way around.

sandman, i was at the eagles game in philly. while taylor doesnt get "burned" in the normal sense, his biggest issue is peeking into the backfield. it happened twice in that game alone.

it takes coverage skills to be the 2nd best defender in the nfl esp. if you're a safety...just saying

Well, contrary to popular belief, safeties don't play in a vacuum. What do I mean? In an article in the Times Gregg Williams came out and said that Sean had trouble last year because he had no chemistry with anyone who played safety next to him last year. He also felt like he had to be the difference maker on the D and it was his job to make plays and keep bad things from happening. As he found out, it's impossible for a safety to carry a defense and he ended up looking bad quite a few times. However, I'm willing to give Sean a pass on last season because the whole D was bad and I said all along that I think he was trying to cover for everyone else. I'm glad he dropped the weight and is going back to his natural position at free safety. Let the guy be a ball hawk, don't put him in the box, let him roam around 20 yards deep and make plays on balls in the air the way he did his rookie year when he shut Randy Moss up.

Once again, I attribute much of his perceived struggles last season to a defense that didn't produce, so he tried to put it on his shoulders. He was trying to bail everyone out and paid for it.

i agree with this. but there probably should have come a time when taylor realized he was making him self look bad by trying to cover up other peoples miscues. he was basically compounding the problem

Lets also not forget the complete lack of pass rushing in the first half of last season, which can be blamed for many of the woes of the secondary (esp Taylor, who had to cover the deep balls that QBs love to throw when given enough time).
