Pre-training camp power rankings from Peter King

24. Washington: I agonized over this one, because I think the Redskins are moving in the right direction. I like young quarterback Jason Campbell. I like Joe Gibbs' ability to make owner Dan Snyder a more patient man and I like -- really like -- the addition of tackling machine London Fletcher-Baker. I could see the 'Skins winning 10, but maybe in 2008, not 2007.

Re: Pre-training camp power rankings from Peter King

I've repeatedly said that, if members of the media "have it out for the Skins," Peter King is not among that crowd. Peter King reversed course on Monk and the Hof (admitting he was wrong for all those years), always has good things to say about Gibbs, and is pretty even-handed. I think we have reason to be optimistic about the upcoming season, but since preseason rankings don't depart dramatically from last season's standings, I can't fault him for ranking us so low.

I agree with PK 100%. The skins will be lucky to win 7 or 8 this year but next year I look for more like 9 to 11.

I agree with PK because rankings arent suppose to change much from the season before. But why are you always so pessimistic? It is almost as if you waiting for it to happen so you can tell people you told em so...

Peter King is a tool. Why would anyone pay attention to what he says?

Re: Pre-training camp power rankings from Peter King

Peter King still writes sports-related articles? I kinda put him out of my mind a while back. Thanks for reminding me that his opinion still has the same amount of meaning for me.

As for me, I have the Skins ranked somewhere in the 1 thru 32 range. This assessment's accuracy all hinges heavily on:
-injury problems or lack thereof
-heart and determination
-team unity
-QB pressure: providing and preventing
-a little bit of luck
-Alstott's elbow not getting within 5 feet of the endzone
-Betts not fumbling the ball away at a crucial moment
-the kicker not missing 2 or 3 FG attempts in the first game
-not letting Eli throw up ducks and the secondary still not be able to get a hand on it
-Archuleta not blowing cove..oh wait, nevermind, that can't happen now

Nice post, and I agree, King does not have it in for the 'Skins. He and Snyder are on good terms; King spent time with Snyder before the draft this year and King portrayed Snyder as an owner willing to do everything he could to help the team win. And he praised the team for the Landry pick; crediting Snyder for avoiding the sexy move of jumping up to get Calvin Johnson.

Anyone who doesn't buy the hype that the Redskins are super bowl bound are obviously anti-Redskins. The fact that we've been terrible for years upon years might have something to do with no one reaching on us anymore.

Pre training camp rankings? You gotta be kidding me. I can see ff ranking of individual players to help guys draft, but come on. You can't rank teams if they haven't been in camp much less play any preseason games. Even so, I can't see us as low as 24. I think we will miss the playoffs, but not by too much, a game or two.

Hopefully we can be this season's Saints. We have the talent and fire power, we just have been missing the chemistry, and that has been the most important thing. No Chemistry= Bad season.

Re: Pre-training camp power rankings from Peter King

Well, we won 10 a couple years back when everyone predicted 4 or so. We have a better team with better chemistry than any season in recent memory. Sure we have our questionable players, but if they just show up and play a little better than average, we'll hit 10 wins again this year.
