Respect for the Running Game

Well if it makes everyone feel better Scouts Inc. has the Skins' running back situation ranked as the #3 best in the NFL.

Quote:
3. Washington Redskins
If San Diego has the best one-two punch in the NFL, Washington isn't far behind. Starting RB Clinton Portis was limited to eight games last season because of a shoulder injury. That injury really opened the door for backup Ladell Betts. Betts finished the 2006 season with 1,154 yards on 245 carries. Betts, scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2006 season, re-signed with Washington. His return should make for a very good training camp battle with Portis. Depth-wise, the Redskins are excellent. They also signed former Chiefs and Jets RB Derrick Blaylock, have a scat back in Rock Cartwright. Fullback Mike Sellers is a very good special teams player, blocker and pass catcher. With young QB Jason Campbell at the controls, the Redskins will rely on this deep backfield to carry the offense.
That sounds like respect to me.

(thanks AMD)

Re: Respect for the Running Game

No problem, I guess I should have just started a new thread to begin with.

As far as the overall article, I'm suprised they still have KC as high as they do. Johnson looks like he could be a holdout and he has had some many carries over the past two seasons that I would be concerned that he might have an off year. I do like Bennett as a backup, but I don't think he's as good as Betts.
I'd probably move up NO from #6, and I'd move Oakland down the list because I don't think they're better than teams like St Louis or B'more.

Re: Respect for the Running Game

Well I'm in shock, maybe they can even get that right?

I think there is a pole on NFL.com on RB tandems in the East and we are second behind the Cowgirls, JJ and co., now that's a joke. I think yesterday it was like 40%, we were 35%...? something like that, the other two were taking it up the rear...! lol

Re: Respect for the Running Game

If Rock Cartwright is a scatback, I'm the Princess of England. Other than that it's all good.

The idea that the Cowboys have better RBs than we do is absurd. D'Boyz, 5Rings, you agree with me that such a claim is ridiculous, don't you? SandtrapJack? Anyone?

Well I guess since it's been established that all the analysts and predictions are full of $#!+, then we must really be like 23rd, or maybe even 33rd.

Seriously though, that sounds about right with the two starters we have and the offensive line.

Re: Respect for the Running Game

Wow we actually got some recognition. I’m in shock.

Personally I don’t mind flying under the Medias radar. It's what we do starting Sep 9th that I really care about.

Re: Respect for the Running Game

If I can't care where they rank our QBs then I guess I can't care where they rank our RBs. I think we're top tier at RB and middle of the pack at QB with potential to be top 10. But my opinion counts as much as theirs does. Zero. Health and a little luck will determine how our season goes as it does just about every other team.

Well you know that imbecile Colin Cowherd said this week that Clinton Portis is was of the most dispensible players in the league. I hope he stubs his foot painfully today.

Obviously, because we all know that players that rush for 6,453 yards in 4 1/2 seasons are a dime a dozen. Especially, if they are only averaging 4.7 yards a carry and 11 TD's per season. GTFOH! Colin is a worthless douche.

Did you hear it angry? It was terrible. He mentioned this to Mort who said, well, Portis is great, but if he does go down they got this guy Betts who can really move the sticks as well. It's the right answer - the reason we are getting the respect that we are... but it was not the answer Colin was looking for. You could feel his disappointment.

I avoid Cowherd like the plague. He's a pompous ass.

Glad to see the running game get some respect, but as someone said, we were 4th in league in rushing yards last year despite Portis missing half the year and inconsistent QB play. No question we're at least 3rd best. Fingers crossed that Portis stays healthy.

He's got some sort of axe to grind against the Skins. I honestly don't think I've ever heard him say anything remotely positive about them.
