Gimme the damn mic; Keyshawn retires.

Keyshawn Johnson has declined an offer from the Tennessee Titans and has decided to retire.

The wide receiver, who also expected to receive an offer from the Oakland Raiders, is expected to announce his decision at a Wednesday afternoon news conference at his alma mater of USC, his agent, Jerome Stanley, told ESPN.com's John Clayton.

Stanley said Johnson is expected to pursue a broadcasting career with ESPN.

"The timing of it was just right," Stanley said. "There were a couple of slots open in broadcasting. He was either going to retire this year or next year, but the timing just turned out to be right now."

Johnson, who turns 35 in July, was released by the Carolina Panthers earlier this month after the Panthers drafted Southern California wideout Dwayne Jarrett. He had 70 catches for 815 yards and four touchdowns for Carolina in 2006.

Johnson, the No. 1 pick in the 1996 NFL draft, has started 162 of 167 games in his 11 NFL seasons that spans stints with Carolina, Dallas, Tampa Bay and the New York Jets. He retires with 814 career receptions for 10,571 yards and has 64 touchdowns.

He worked as an analyst on ESPN's televised coverage of the the NFL draft last month.

Not a bad move. He wanted far more cash than I believe anyone was willing to pay.

He's not going to far, it's NFL TV time. Someone will hire him in this roll.

Kind of a surprise, I thought he had another 1-2 years left in him.

ESPN has just hired Deion, Keyshawn and Michael Irvin to host a new show:

"I can shout the loudest about nothing". Also considered as titles "It's all about the bling"; "Shut up, I'm talking now" and "I am the prettiest".

It is unclear what the actual content of the show will be.

My fondest memory of KJ came when he was playing for Tampa several years ago. He caught a pass over the middle and got absolutely tattooed from behind. His helmet went flying and he was laying on the ground, literally eating grass with that look in his eyes like the lights are on, but no one's home. He eventually got up and stayed in the game. I've never been a Key fan, but he was definitely a tough sumbitch.

No, my favorite KJ moment was when he was at Dallas against the Skins in Washington (35-7 masacre). It was when their kicker missed the field goal in the first qtr and he was screamin..."You can't miss that f**king kick"! Then in the same game at the end, he is on camera and he pushes it away with a look of total dismay.

Yeah that would be mine too, his pouting in that game was soooooo classic.

In fact, that game as a whole was one of my favorite games of all time.

Crushing the Boys at home in a meaningful game, doesn't get much better than that.

He probably does have a year or two left in his body, but not at his asking price. He made it clear nothing less than 2.5 mil. so that obviously turned off some bidders for his service.

Re: Gimme the damn mic; Keyshawn retires.

I wouldn't doubt some team during camp gives him an incentive laiden offer to join their team. Some teams need a guy like him to catch balls over the middle. I have never been a big fan of his, especially early in his career, but as the years went by, I started to respect him more as a player. He gave everything he had, and played hard. I still think he has a year or two under his belt. In an awful carolina offense he still had good numbers. And they are suppose to be a run first offense under john Fox, so I would imagine he can put up some good numbers else where. He just wants to win.

If Keyshawn is on ESPN I'm going to spend a lot more time watching NFL Network.

Looks like he is going to take Irvin's spot. He'll do well. But I'm going to miss Irvin. He was funny as hell.
