Patriots' passing game: great or not?

With all the WR's and TE's the Pats have now (Wes Welker, Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Reche Caldwell, Chad Jackson, Kelly Washington, Ben Watson, Kyle Brady) it is pretty apparant that they will run a west coast offense next year. But my question is did they overdo it? Do they have too much talent? All their WR's are at least quality 3rd spot WR's, 2 are 1 spot quality, 2-3 are 2 spot quality, and 1-2 iare 3 spot quality. How will everyone be happy? How will the ball be shared? This did not work well for the Skins or for the Seahawks last year when both of us loaded up on WRs. I know Bellicheck is a genius, but I dont know how this offense system will work out.

I'm sure that Tom Brady will take care of all of that. If theres anyone in the league who knows how to spread the ball around to his receivers, its Tom Brady. Thats why you hardly ever see any Patriot receivers in the Pro Bowl.

It does seem more than a bit overboard, but if Randy Moss still has it who cares. That move has the potential to be the pick up of the year bar none. Randy Moss either smokes tons of weed now and has lost his fire or the NFL better watch out.

Well, there certainly is an overkill factor here. The same argument I was making for us not to draft Calvin Johnson applies here. Theres just no way the Pats can possibly utilize all that talent to the max of each and every person's ability. Just not enough plays in a game.

Their offensive system is very QB friendly. Allows Brady to throw for a high completion %, and be efficient in finding the open man while avoiding INTs. Moss himself isn't especially good after the catch, and getting guys who excel after the catch is the only way this Pats offense will get any better.

Expect them to improve offensively a tad, but not so much that will make the Moss and Stallworth salaries seem worth it.

It would only be over kill if they paid alot of money or gave up alot (draft picks) to get these players. They did neither. They really thought this through and made some shrewd moves. I am very impressed by them. Their defense is loaded and now their offense is as well.

Re: Patriots pass game great or not?

I actually dont like the Moss pickup. He has a tendency to not run as hard when the play is not designed to go to him. With this amount of talent, he will not get the ball that much and therefore will not give it his all barely ever. He will have a bad attitude and will complain about not getting the ball enough which will create negative team chemistry. I thought the Pats had a perfect WR corps for Brady before Moss was brought in.

NE likes to spread the field w/ 3 and 4 wr's so I doubt they will be going to a west coast offense. I would think it would be more of a run and shoot offense.

Re: Patriots pass game great or not?

Let's see, they barely lost a shoot out in the AFC Championship game with the Colts with Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney, and Chad Jackson at wideout. Brady spreads the ball around better than anyone.

And we are talking about Randy Moss right? He's only 30, he still runs a freaking 4.29, and there is only one corner who I'd trust to cover him one-on-one (that'd be the Champ). I doubt he quits on a play now, especially with a qb who scans the entire field. But that's a very minor concern, especially when you consider he's good for about 1200 yds and 15+ tds next year (barring injury).

Re: Patriots pass game great or not?

For as much as I hate to say it, cause I HATE the Pats, they set their passing game up GREATLY!
1- Moss
2- Stallworth
3- Washington
4- Welker
That might be the best WR corp in the NFL. Having an accurate guy like Brady throwing them the ball is scary. However, having 2 head cases (Moss and Stallworth) this could implode on them.

Trust me guys, Moss still has it. Especially if he thinks he's going to get a ring. How can you get motivated when you have a guarenteed contract and a team that is lucky to win 2 games???? Moss is a GREAT pickup.
