Faneca on trading block
Steelers unlikely to go up in draft
Alan Faneca on trading block... Trade our 1st for their 1st and Alan... I'd do it in a heartbeat. Trade down get Faneca and pick Brach at 15 if he falls that far, perfect!....discuss

Re: Faneca on trading block
That wouldn't be bad at all.
I think he'll stay in Pittsburgh though. But if he were to be traded I could see Arizona as an option. Then the Steelers could jump up to 5th and take Joe Thomas

Re: Faneca on trading block
If we were looking for an expensive, veteran option at LG, why didn't we go after Muiatalo?
I don't think this would be a horrible deal for us, but I don't think it's an option we will even bat an eye at this close to the draft.

Re: Faneca on trading block
no way we are going after fanaca, he wants a derrick dockery contract, and considering their age, and the chemistry that dock had with our line, i would much prefer giving that money to dock, which i was not willing to do, so i wont do it for adam either. I think the skins are playing moneyball on the o line

Re: Faneca on trading block
Our starting O-line is all veterans right around 30 years old. We resigned Wade and brought in Fabini. As far as I'm concerned that's a solid veteran core. We need to build for the future. And that means drafting an O-lineman. Wade will be fine at guard for a year. Faneca is very good, but he has a big contract and turns 31 this year. If we get him we will once again be sacrificing the draft for a 30 something highly paid veteran (His salary cap # for 2007 is $6.122M). Please no. O-line is one of our strengths, not a weakness.

Re: Faneca on trading block
First of all I'll be suprised if he doesn't stay in Pitt. Secondly, we have no intrest in signing Faneca.

Re: Faneca on trading block
too much money on the O-line, plus I don't see that deal getting done unless we throw in another player and they throw in another draft pick. However, I don't see him staying with Pitt. They need to free up roster spots and more importantly cap space.
Generally I don't like trading or signing a FA at Guard b/c it sends the wrong message about the teams commitment to keeping guys here. Why pay a little less for a brand new face when we could have kept dock for a comparable sum? (not saying that we should pay either that much)

Re: Faneca on trading block
If we were somehow able to land Faneca I would not be upset as long as we kept a first rounder in the process.

Re: Faneca on trading block
I'm not saying the Redskins should go after him but I would like to point out that Dockery isn't anywhere near and never will be the player that Faneca is.

Re: Faneca on trading block
Faneca is a very good player but considering his age I wouldn't give up that much to get him. Plus he's not going to come cheap.

Re: Faneca on trading block
How about we leave alone an over 30 player looking for Steve H. type of money. But I can see why he want's more money. Fanaca has been one of the best players at his position and Derrick D. is probably making more than he is.

Re: Faneca on trading block
This might be a good short term solution, but I would much rather have a player like Landry or Okoye that could dominate for a decade vrs. two or three years. Better even still, if we trade down so some one can draft quinn and get extra picks and still get Okoye
