1999-2000 Penn State Lions
I know I going to light a few fires with this thread, but please remember this is only for discussion purposes...
Recently I was reflecting on Lavar Arrington and his health problems (injuries), and how he went from a force in the league (supposedly the next LT) to a failed 1st rounder that was cut twice. I also began to think about Courtney Brown and how he too had his body break down on him, basically destroying his career. It made me think... a similar breakdown of thier bodies just like Barry Bonds after he stopped taking the juice, so I began to wonder? My point being, do any of you think Steroids played a role on that college athletic program because for 2 tremendous atheletes from the same program from the same draft have their bodies breakdown so bad it raises an eyebrow... I 'm not saying Lavar or Courtney were on steroids, I have no proof, but I just want to see what others think

Injuries happen. I think if you dig deep enough you'd see plenty of players that come from the same schools with injuries, I don't see any reason to be suspicious in this case.

I think while injuries do occur, I certainly wouldn't rule out steriods. It's one thing to make accusations and another to say possibility.

I had my suspiscions about Lavar as well, but I have no proof. I stated as much in a few posts about a year ago after he left our team. He was mentioned a couple of times on ESPN when the whole steriods scandal intially broke but nothing has ever been said about again. Anyway you never know in this day an age in sports.

It was just the joint injuries that made me wonder, I've heard that those are key areas that break down after using steroids. Like Matty it could be coincedence...

You do realize that, unlike baseball, football is a game involving violent collisions right?

Re: 1999-2000 Penn State Lions
I wouldn't be surprised if steroids were involved. I think we underestimate as a whole how deep the steroid and especially HGH goes in pro sports. While I feel football tries to do the best as far as testing and finding steroids I think it could improve.
I'm not sure about college testing, but wasn't there an article where some unnamed NFL player said something like 50% of players use performance enhancing types of drugs? Maybe it was just offensive linemen. LaVar always had his problems, when we changed to a scheme where he had to actually stay in position is when he started to fall apart.

Yeah, you are right. These guys clearly were on the stuff. But why stop there? What about Gale Sayers too? 6 seasons and done? Come on man, that guy was juiced up. And don't even get me started on Bo Jackson. Finally, OJ Simpson, what was his nickname? Next thing you know he is spassing out and two people are dead. Coincidence? Not coincidence, proof.

Like I said before I'm not putting out accusations but it is something that in hind sight now you have to ask.

I am just more shocked than anything at Arrington's fall from glory 3-4 years ago he was the face of our team

Re: 1999-2000 Penn State Lions
A chronic knee problem coupled with an achilles injury will take down the best of players. Sucks for LaVar but these things happen.

I'm just sensitive because it's my alma matter. If it was two Ohio State or Nebraska players you were talking about I'm sure I'd be calling for investigations. BTW Diehard, are you a Pitt guy?:cheeky-sm
