Defensive headsets?

"Competition Committee to Propose That One Defensive Player Gets to Have Radio Receiver in Helmet"

So how smart would a MLB have to be now in order to coordinate the defense on the field?

Re: Defensive headsets?

Makes sense. The MLB is considered to be the QB of the D so why not allow them to receive signals through a headset just like a QB.

It still doesn't change the fact that the MLBs still need to make adjustments and still have to be able to do their jobs. It's just changing the way they receive the defensive calls.

I don't think it would be different from how things are. It would save time on learning the signals though. Im all for it.

Re: Defensive headsets?

Won't this also make the 'no huddle' that much more common for offenses? That way they don't give the D any chance to get the call from the coach to the MLB and then to the rest of the D.

I thought that was the purpose of the no huddle already.

Re: Defensive headsets?

Could be beneficial in several ways. It would limit the dependency on hand signals, and having to constantly change them because of former players playing with the oposition. Could further limit confusion in the hurry-up offense as well as the no huddle. It will still however be the responsibility of the defensive signal caller to get everyone lined up properly, and in position to defense the play.

Re: Defensive headsets?

I think a MLB would still have to be pretty smart. I mean all the DC would be able to do is have about 12 seconds to talk to them, isn't that how long the OC has to talk to the QB ? I could be wrong but after that they still have to audible at times anyway just like some QB's do after they get the play and the mic's are turned off. I guess with all the rules to help the offenses I guess it's only fair that defenses get some of the same advantages. Now giving the offensive lineman headsets because of the noise to help cut down on false starts ? Hell No ! I remember they talked about it a while ago but I don't remember hearing anything else about it so I'm pretty sure that got axed. That would be cheating pretty much. Learn your timing playboy !

Not really. It still takes time for an offense to line up, get set and have the QB signal the play to the Wr's, OL and Backs. The only thing the no huddle reduces is the time to make substitutions. However the really smart teams still find time to sub in defensive players in the no huddle. The slow thinking teams do not find enough time. Your situation substitution players should know when they are supposed to come in. If they don't they are supid.
