Wade Phillips is the new coach of the Pukes

Just heard it on ESPN here on the west coast. Chris Mortensen reporting it live. Garrett will be the OC. What do you all think of this hiring? Regardless of who they hire, they will always S.U.C.K.

Interesting choice. He knows the 3-4 defense which JJ wants to keep in Dallas. I heard that Norv had really hurt his chances when he supposedly told Jones he didn't want Garrett to be his OC.

Phillips is an average coach, but a pretty good d-coordinator. I'm curious to see who replaces him in San Diego and how the Chargers will be affected by losing both their coordinators from the past few seasons

lol damn i was hoping ol' Jerrah didn't learn from the Skins' and Raiders mistakes and hired Norval. Oh well I don't know much about Wade Phillips, but i do know he wasn't a very successfull head coach and he's a pretty good d-coordinator.

Well he has a burlesque dancing daughter named Tracy Phillips. He is the son of former NFL coach "Bum Phillips" who was the head coach for the Oilers (1975-1980) and then the head coach of the Saints (1981-1985).

Phillips had ben the head coach of 4 NFL teams, Saints, Broncos, Bills, Falcons(intreim). Phillips had taken the Broncos and the Bills to the playoffs, once with the Broncos and twice with the Bills. Phillips was the Bills headcoach when the Titans hit the Bills in the face with what we know as the "Music City Miracle."

Over all Phillips is considered to be one of the great defensive minds in the NFL today. His winning percentage is 56.25%. He was 16-16 in Denver and 29-19 in Buffalo.

Oh and now he is soon to be the new HC of the cowboys...

mucho gracias mi amigo. I didn't know Bum Phillips was his dad. If history repeats itself, then we can expect to see the Cowboys in the playoffs but not deep, he's 0-3 in the playoffs so far. Either way i hope he doesn't succeed with the Cowboys and sends them into a deep hole that they'll never recover from lol.

Re: Wade Phillips is the new coach of the Pukes

Its not a terrible hire....

Honestly, with the guys who were the canidates, unless Phillips lights the world on fire this year, I have always thought Jones just wanted to bring someone in for a season, then throw money at a big name guy (maybe Lovie Smith), following this season. With the talent on that team though, I think it would be a huge mistake if thats the truth, because it will set the franchise back about 3-4 years, and alot of the talent that is good now, wont be as good then. I'd like to hear a Cowboy fans take on that, it just seemed like these canidates were very average, especially for a franchise like Dallas. I mean I know he had success there, but Norv Turner? Wade Phillips? Jason Garrett? Dosen't sound like Jerry Jones to me. I would pretty much expect the same things if we were looking for a head coach and thats who Snyder brought in.

It's a stop gap hire. Jones is the real coach anyway.

Re: Wade Phillips is the new coach of the Pukes

I think your right as Jerry already hired his OC in Jason. I know Wade can't be real happy about that. Just Jerry letting him know who runs the show. However, how many more chances does Wade have to succeed? He is in perfect position to accept a less than ideal setup. And..............as you say, Jerry can coach the team.

Here we go again, recycling washed up head coaches. Oh well, I see one less competitive team in the NFC East.

I definitely would not say that. Phillips is inheriting a pretty decent team. They were 1 play away from going to Chicago last season. I think they will still be just as competitive as they were last season and they play us tough no matter what. Don't count anyone out quite yet, its only February.

It should be interesting to see how this pre-assembled coaching staff comes together. I just find it very odd to hire a head coach and throw a coordinator on him.

The cowboys are an OK team at best even with Bill Parcells, what makes you think Phillips is going to do a better job than Bill Parcells? I'm sure they will have a good defense and be competitive against us but I wouldn't call the Cowboys winners regardless of what month it is. Hell, I wouldn't call the Skins winners either. The NFC East crown belongs to the Philly until someone takes it from them.

I definitely did not mean to give off the impression that I think the Cowboys will be better with Phillips than with Parcells. I just meant that they are still a decent team and I wouldnt discount them. I do agree about Philly. I made the same statement last year when everyone said they'd be at the bottom.

Re: Wade Phillips is the new coach of the Pukes

He inherits a young, solid D that didn't play well at the end of the year for some reason. I see them being pretty solid on that side of the ball, as the transition shouldn't be that much.
On O, I wonder what impact Garrett will have on Romo et al. I would assume they'll have a new system & it will be Romo's first experience in learning a different nfl offense since he became pro. add in TO's drama, Glenn & that o-line getting older & you have to wonder how good that O can be?
It will be interesting to see how they draft. Probably should nab a guard or OT first.
