Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
Largely considered to be the leading candidate for the Dallas HC position, I wondered what the feeling was regarding Norville and his time in Washington. He was 7-6 the year he got fired (and had lost his last three games by 6 points)
Every Cowboys fan is watching Tape from the Aikman-Smith-irvin glory days and booking SB trips next year. I seem to remember Washington not being too sad to see Norv leave.

I wasn't sad to see him leave. He brought us like one playoff trip in 6 years, and never produced up to expectations. I think he's better suited to being an offensive coordinator then a head coach.

I tend to agree with CC. I think Norv is a solid coach, but in two coaching stints he hasn't really compiled anything of note. However, he was working for Al Davis and an inexperieced Dan Snyder.

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
I think his stay here was about three years too long. Other coaches have failed and came back to prove they can be a head coach but I would not hang may hat on Norve. I like for everyone to succeed in life but not as a player or coach in our division.

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
I think he did ok.
When he arrived, the team was at the very beginning of the rebuilding stages. Then he had to deal with a bunch of bad draft picks, Desmond Howard, Shular, and Westbrook. If they had lived up to the hype... The team had to rebuild the whole offensive line, The WR Corp and find a QB. I truly believe that if Dan Turk makes a clean snap in the Buccs playoff game, We win the superbowl that year( 99). We would've played the Rams in the championship game, Green, Bailey and Dishman would've shut down Holt and Bruce. So So Close. and his stint with the raiders, Well everyone is going to fail with Al Davis in charge. |

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
there are coaches in this league that are great co coordinators, and once they make the next step, for one reason or another, they fail. some men are meant to be head coaches, some aren't. i think turner is an above average offensive co coordinator. as a head coach, well.....

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
I always felt that Norv was a very cerebral coach. He has a great offensive scheme and he knows it very well but whenever he didn't have the right players he didn't adjust very well. He didn't seem adaptable, to me.

Let's throw out his last year when he was canned with 3 games left to go. It's still hard to see how anyone could qualify one playoff trip in six years as a success.

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
Thanks. Tell you the truth, I can't stand the Cowboys boards right now. No one is talking about the senior bowl/draft/Super Bowl. it is all coaching all the time. And I think that Coaching is the one area of Professional Football that the Fans know the least about. So much of what they do goes on behind the scenes. And I don't care who you hire as the Defensive Coordinator it just doesn't put any sizzle into the off season for me. Unless that guy is also going to play shutdown Free Safety.... I'm happy to be here where fans are talking about the Players for the most part.

Re: Norv Turner Era: Success or Failure?
What I would worry most about is how he'll handle people like TO especially with the new offensive coordinator they just hired to call the plays. Wasn't Norv typically the offensive mind?
