Mort on the Portis trade rumors
Adeel (D.C.): Mort, Is there any truth behind the rumors that Portis might be traded? What value does he have on the market?
Chris Mortensen: I've read the rumors but it's not high on my radar right now. I have some doubts because the Redskins would get diminished value for Portis, who is coming off shoulder surgery. |

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
Mort is pretty solid in his reporting, seems to always get accurate info. CP will be w/us a while longer at least.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
I wish his response was a little more emphatic. I'd hace loved a "That's not going to happen. The rumors are hogwash." The basic"Well I haven't heard anything" response doesn't make me so comfortable.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
That fact that he hasn't heard anything tells me it's pretty clear these rumors aren't based on any solid info.

Hmmm, this thread reminds me of another conversation we were having back on January 8th...
"Damaged goods" anyone? |

I can see it now, Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, Matty's the red one, Offiss is the blue one, and Offiss' head just got pwned.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
I believe that's what I've been saying all along, other teams view Portis as damaged only I think I used the word dinged. I also doubt CP is going anywhere but I think Redskins fans would be shocked (in a bad way) with what they would get for CP in a trade.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
i think the word trade needs to be reevaluated around this team. first we need to figure out why we do it.... then we need to figure out who to do it with..... then we need to figure out how to make a positive trade in our favor without pissing away draft picks.
when i hear trade anytime envolving the redskins i always think the worst, and im never dissapointed. at least not recently that is. |

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
Gibbs said "NO! We are not trading Portis" and I believe him.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
I don't understand how anybody can think Portis is expendable now that Betts had 1 good year. Every good team that Gibbs has ever had, he used 2 backs. I don't remember The early days with Riggins, but in 87 it was Bryant, Rogers, and Smith. In 91 it was Byner and Ervins. Why does everybody think that Portis and Betts Cant coexist.
This is a strength on our team. But it would become a weakness (depth) if we let one of them get away. |

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
Coles for Moss because Coles forced a trade . We sent the Jets a 1st and 3rd rd pick for Coles , I think the Jets got the better of that deal . . Should have drafted Moss , not Gardner to begin with . Of course our 2nd rd pick this year is , the Jets < again > , our third and 4th rd picks ,,, Denver and SF . We keep pissing away draft picks , we will be the AZ cardinals in three years .

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
I'm still trying to figure out how/where the trade Portis rumor got started. I haven't heard anyone in the Redskins organization mention anything about trading him. They may try to intice him to rework his contract for cap reasons, but trading him is unlikely.
They're going to need his effort, because gone are the days when teams can rely soley on one back to carry the load through a sixteen game season.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
Shoot trade everyone that we can, were not winning with any of these overpaid bums. I would rather lose with young inexpensive talent than over priced over the hill bums. Always being over the cap and having our butts kicked year and year out. We have stunk for the 12 of the last 14 yrs im sick of it.
