Thank the Heavens Marty Lasted One Year

Tossing the Red Flag to challenge that fumble was absurd. Going for it on 4th down instead of kicking the field goal with a All Pro, Glad he is gone.

Marty didn't get the stupid penalties or fumble the interception. If McCree holds onto that ball, the game is over.

Bottom line, Marty is now a pathetic 5-13 in the post-season having lost his last 6. He will go down as one of the worst big game coaches in NFL history, and probably would have broken our hearts had he been given the chance to stay.

Stupid thread.

I'm sure most of us would have rather have seen Marty stay here instead of Spurrier.

Marty can't control everything. I think despite whatever his record is, alot of the crap that has happened to him, he can't control. You can't control Ernest Byner fumbling, you cant control guys not catching Interceptions, ect. Yeah, his record sucks, but there werent too many things I would have done differently (outside of that one challenge today). The Patriots, whatever their seeding are, are just that good. Theres a reason everyone said all week the Pats had a legit chance, and a reason why no one is suprised. IMO.

I think the Pats and the Eagles are the two best coached teams in the NFL. The Pats deserve to be where they are.

Re: Thank the Heavens Marty Lasted One Year

I was a really young redskins fan when Marty was hired and fired but I definitely don't think he should have been fired. Snyder just wanted the ol' ball coach that bad.

Should he have gone for one extra play? I think he could have squeezed one to the outside in there but he would be risking a sack. 10 more yards would have been key. At the time I was watching it with friends(getting ready for the 24 premiere) and I was like, he is going to kick it. My friends were screaming at the screen (who wants the pats to win another one?) and then I saw that it was a 54.

You've gotta love Belichick and his genius. I mean the gameplan to limp badly through the first three quarters only to win on a series of improbable plays is the perfect counter to Martyball!

Re: Thank the Heavens Marty Lasted One Year

At first I was think that you can't blame the fumbles and penalties on Marty, but to a degree you can. The GM doesn't get a free pass on them either.

What I saw was that the Chargers had the talent and offensive and defensive gameplans to win that game. The problem is that a few guys played tight or stupid. The headbutt penalty cost the Chargers the game. That is a stupid player being undisiplined. Fault order - player, GM, coach. Also, you can't really coach people not to fumble, but you can remind them to protect the ball, and you can find ways to make the guys, who are playing to tight, relax a little. Going from 15 turnovers all season to 4 in this game proves that the guys were to tight and that has to go on the coach.

Bottom line, Marty isn't the offensive guy or the defensive guy. He is the guy in charge of making sure his guys are disiplined, physically, and mentally prepared. He missed on two out of three.

Re: Thank the Heavens Marty Lasted One Year

would all the redskin fans out there that wish the skins were 14-2 this season, please raise their hands? thats what i thought. everyone also said bill cowher couldn't win the big one, until last season, now everyone wants him as their coach. i wish he had never left. he definitely had the skins moving in the right direction

Re: Thank the Heavens Marty Lasted One Year

Gotta say though, if you're team consistently wins each and every year, like alot of Marty's teams did with Cleveland, KC, and now SD, I'd be happy knowing that he brings respect to a franchise. However, he's never been able to take any team all the way. I do believe it must be a curse on him or something. He couldn't even get there with Joe Montana (although he was an aging Joe Montana.)

Marty can't win - literally. If he goes for the field goal, he gets accused of being to conservative. Instead, he does what he never does in the playoffs - he plays aggressive.

He's as cursed as Belichick is charmed. The headbutt, the fumbles, the dropped passes - all are things that rarely happened in the regular season. Not saying he's blameless, all coaches are responsible to a certain extent for everything that happens on the field.

I feel sorry for him.

The head butt was stupid but not the reason they lost. The fumbled punt then the guy tries to pick it up, just as dumb as the head butt. The fumbles and droped balls also did them in.

VERY VERY stupid thread. Anyone who knows football knows that Marty is a very solid NFL coach. Alot of the stuff that went on yesterday is out of the coaches control. Dropped passes, personel fouls and fumbles on INT's are not the coaches fault.
