Going to the Vagiants game? Leave early.
I just got this email. It's going to take for-freaking-ever to get to the game on Saturday from VA.
Fellow Redskins Fans: We have been notified by federal authorities that they intend to close a portion of both the inner and outer loops of the Beltway (I-495/I-95) for approximately 30-45 minutes on Saturday for the motorcade procession of former President Gerald Ford. Our best information is that the Beltway will be closed starting at approximately 5:45 p.m. from Suitland Road south, across the Wilson Bridge, to the exit for the George Washington Parkway. We urge you to take this into consideration and investigate alternative routes as you make your plans to drive to Saturday's 8 p.m. kickoff of our game against the New York Giants. If possible, please arrive early at FedExField. We will honor President Ford at our game with a moment of silence prior to the singing of the National Anthem. Our thoughts are with his family at this sorrowful time.

8pm game, parking lots (aka Tailgate Heaven) open at 4...there should be no Skins fans on the Beltway at 5:45pm

Re: Going to the Vagiants game? Leave early.
You should be able to cut across town...if it's starting at 5:45, the motorcade won't hit the road until after 6pm. you could cut across one of the city bridges, get across town and be well into your 3rd beer before the motorcade reaches the GW Parkway.

I'll be there, but we'll probably try to be in the lot by about 4, so hopefully it won't be a problem.

Re: Going to the Vagiants game? Leave early.
We're in Arlington, so it usually takes an hour if we leave at least 2 hours before gametime. I figured we would make it to our seats by kickoff, but now I'm not so sure. I'm trying to move up the sitter to 5:00p...

Maybe the Giants staff ought to hire sitters for all the crybaby players they have!

If I'm coming across the Northern part of the beltway will I be okay? I'll be heading down 270 then heading on 495 east.
I have to stay at a Christmas party untill 5:30-ish.. no good.

You'll find a spot if you have a parking pass. It gets full, but I've never heard of anyone getting turned away.

Yeah, it's the other side (around Alexandria) that's being shut down.
