Rogers Is in a Tough Position - washingtonpost.com

Any else pissed off at Carlos Rogers after reading the article?

Here are somethings that pissed me off:

* He thinks if he'd actually caught the ball, he'd be in the probowl. What about all those WR's running by him every week?

* Carolina was your bestgame because you had to cover the elderly Keyshawn Johnson all day. There was one pass defence against Smith, Springs had him the rest of the way.

* He actually says that if the passrush was better, He'd play better. It is true, But you dont call out your teammates to justify your bad play.

* Vincent and Springs Imply that he doesn't listen. I guess he really thinks he's playing great...

* he is a 25 year old second year player? Jesus, he was ALMOST in college as long as I was.

Get it together!!!

Re: Carlos Rogers Article

The article did not win my affection for CR that's for sure. Hopefully Trot Vincent can help out this off-season if he's willing to listen. Carlos has a point about his dropped INT's. 6 of them this year would make him a prime candidate for Pro-Bowl selection. Those 6 extra turnover's might have swung a couple of games in our favor. In my opinion, the jury is still out on him. CB is a hard position to excel at. He may need three years to develop. This all hinges on his attitude about learning and dedicatiing himself to the team.

Re: Carlos Rogers Article

Do your damn job better. Worry about why wr's keep running by you and stop looking for the pass rush to bail you out. Rogers needs to play better. So does S. Taylor. No question about it as both are a big reason why the defense stinks. Everytime I see S. Merriman causing havoc in SD I just cringe.

Sure, IF he had caught the ball he might be a pro-bowler. The fact that he DID NOT catch the ball is why he is a long way from being a pro-bowler. That and the fact that the pro bowl is a pathetic joke.

Re: Carlos Rogers Article

I think Carlos needs to dedicate himself to getting better at the position. The article hinted he may not be willing to work as hard as the coaches feel he should. It also leads me to believe he's more willing to pass the buck than take responsibility for his failures. I'm hoping he'll take the negative talk and turn it into a positive by working hard to get better in the offseason, despite the fact he says he dosen't care what people think. He needs to stop making the same mistakes over and over.

Wow...some 9th overall pick. Take some owness to your horrid play. And don't say, "if I held onto the ball..." just hold onto the ball! Don't blame other people for not staying with your man. He bothers me.

Re: Carlos Rogers Article

I'm really not sure how to take this article...I think the negative tone of some of the comments and the article as a whole could easily be the result of the writer wanting them to sound that way, rather than Carlos sounding smug or his teammates sounding critical. His comment about the D-line is a perfect example. No one can deny that they need to perform better, and I think he was trying to say that its not just him...the Defense as a whole needs to step up. Obviously Carlos is having a down season and needs to start catching some of those int's, but I think I'll give him a few more years.

If your going to quote a guy get it right:
He said if the D line got more susstained pass rush from the D line it would make the jobs of the defensive backs easier. TOTAL TRUTH
He did not say anywhere or implyed he was playing great in any of his statements if anything he said the opposite.
I like that he has convidence but I did get the feeling that he was not putting in as much time as he should but thase where just clips from other players and without the full context it hard to tell.

Re: Carlos Rogers Article

Hopefully this season is a wake up call for him, I definitely get the impression from these comments from Springs and Gray that they are hinting that he needs to work harder and dedicate himself a bit more.

Quote:
"Carlos has gotten the opportunity to make his plays and as a top 10 pick people expect you to make those plays and hold you to a high standard," Springs said. "And he has all the talent in the world and I think he'll be fine, but when the opportunity comes, you've got to make those plays. So I think, and I hope, he understands that and is coming around because the corner spot is tough. Every corner has to find his way and I talk to him, but you've kind of got to let them find their way, too. We have different personalities in some ways, and I was a little more aggressive. I couldn't wait to talk to guys and find out, 'How the hell can I do this as fast as possible?' "
Quote:
"A lot of time guys don't understand how important the offseason training camp is in order to build up the technique that you're going to use during the season," Gray said. "And it'll sink in for him that, 'Hey I've got to put time in and the more time I put in, the better I'm going to be.' "

Re: Carlos Rogers Article

I hope we can get Nate Clements in the offseason. I also hope we get Gaines Adams in the draft. I think the defense is the only thing lacking right now. The offense is looking better all the time, Campbell just needs to avoid those costly interceptions. Rogers appears to be a guy headed for a backup spot, at best, but he does have some talent.

Re: Carlos Rogers Article

I'm not so worried about Carlos. I think this is the kind of year he won't ever want to repeat and remember his position is one of the hardest jobs in pro sports. One big problem is that he can't catch, but I really think he has the talent to be a number one CB. Now that I think about it he is a total spaz, but it seems like the whole team is on drugs or something so I hope after the offseason rehab he will get it right.

He's delusional and self absorbed. the only thing i agree with is that he can't catch the ball. If he were ANYONE else- ie not a 9th overall pick, he'd have been benched. I'm not saying he can't be good, but his attitude needs an adjustment- ie don't blame others. Even springs calls him out for not being aggressive enough in soliciting advice from savvy vets- translation, he's not actively trying to get better, he just sees himself as a pro bowl caliber player who doesn't need help. I've been hyper critical of him because he's not a good player right now, yet he consistently displays the brazen cockiness usually reserved for players who's name rhyme with schmion. He's had 1 good game, yet thinks he's the second coming...
doesn't he know that role has been filled by the more suitable JC?
