That is just classic!

A couple of weeks ago I was getting really annoyed with all the election crap that people were calling about so I decided to just start telling them that I couldn't vote anymore because I was a convicted felon. They stopped soon after that.

This past election was hotly contested in Maryland and we got calls by the bucketful - I finally told the callers that a) I was sick of the telephone polling b) I would vote for their party UNLESS c) if they or representatives from their party called again I would vote for the other guys.

It was hilarious - 24 hours after informing them of the above, the calls stopped. Somebody must've sent a memo.

There is a live recording of this somewhere. It's great.

Are you talking about the link? This link is a live recording, too. Are your speakers turned on?

That is absolutely classic! I always mess with telemarketers, but not to that extent.

Keep asking them to tell you more... keep them on speakerphone and conduct your business as usual... let em keep talking... see how long you can keep them on the phone with you...

THEN Tell them you're a convicted felon...

Ha, they'd offer to send a bus out to get you on election day if you lived in Philly. They strive for getting OVER 100% turnout for their elections...even if it means having the dead and animated characters of the city vote, a few times each.

Re: Telemarketer prank

When my folks had a 2nd line (for dial up), telemarketers would call (listed number that we gave to no one). My sister answered once, listened for a few seconds, and then said he's dead and hung up. Needless to say, the telemarketer actually called back, so I answered, and she tried to scold me about lying, and i told her to stick it and get a real job. All the while, my parents are cracking up.

Damn telemarketers. Thank you donotcall.gov.

Re: Telemarketer prank

I used to have a lot of problems with telemarketers, around 20 calls a day (seriously) so I got an unlisted / private number and I never ever ever give it out. I mean to only family and friends...no other place. I have not given it to medical facilities, rental places, no where, and I get 0 telemarketing calls.

I do however get door to door marketing...and holy crap that annoys the dickens out of me. A lot are Democrats trying to get me to vote for them, oddly enough I have not seen any republicans doing this. I also get a lot of foriegn speaking people selling pure crap. So I don't even answer the door anymore.

In terms of telemarketing, I always liked the Jerry Sienfeld approach. Ask them for their home number and you'll call them at their home.
