Tony McGee Falcons Reaction!
Hey Everyone,
Well, what do you say at this point? It was a huge disappointment and with the way things are shaping up in the NFC, it was a lost opportunity. Had this team won games against teams they should have beat (Buccaneers, Vikings, Titans) and games when they were in great position to win (Falcons, Titans), they would be sitting very pretty right now. Touching on Brandon Lloyd, he needs to mind his own business. Throwing his helmet and doing things like that is not what he should be doing right now. He needs to worry about making catches and helping this football team. I will stick up for him in the fact that they have not thrown his way enough this year, but he needs to keep that stuff to a minimum, but he will play this weekend. Joe Gibbs will be back with the Redskins next year, but I’m honestly not sure in what capacity. I could see him coming back as just the coach, or just the president or as a GM. It will be interesting to see what happens, and I think a lot will depend on how these last four games go for him. Let it be known, that we need a GM in this off-season, period. This team has not had consistency in the front office since Casserly was in there. If you look at the moves that have been made, some of these guys need to go. Adam Archuletta is a complete bust, and people in the NFL knew that before hand. I think Andre Carter is coming along and he will be a good fit for this team in the long run. People outside of the Redskins talk about Randel El being a bad signing, but he has been the best pickup for the Redskins this off-season, that was a great move. They need consistency in the front office, and someone to make these decisions for Gibbs, so he can get back to coaching. Looking into 2007, do I have optimism? I do have optimism. This team is much better than what is on the field right now. The biggest x-factor is going to be what happens with the assistant head coaches and I think something is going to change. That’s all I’ll say on that front. Looking at the draft, I’m very excited about Golston; he has been a great pickup. I think Anthony Montgomery will be good for this team for a long time as well. There is a reason to be excited about these guys, because they play the game the right way. Looking at what position I would fix going into next season…I want an impact player somewhere. I would look along the defensive line, or at a corner back for a real impact type player. I think you have another good year out of our current offensive line, so I would focus on the D-line in this draft. Thanks Guys, I will talk to you next week!

Just as a note:
When I talked with Tony, as he talked about Saunders and Williams, he just sounded like there was somthing more to the story of the assistant head coaches. He wouldnt elaborate at all, and it could just be the journalist in me and mean nothing, but take it for what you will.

I think we'll see some sort of significant shakeup, whether it's Saunders or Williams, I can really see one of them not being here next year. I'm leaning more towards Saunders not being here and Gibbs grabbing control of the offense again.

My feeling is that the playcalling of Saunders hasn't meshed at all with the coaching of the position coaches - especially Bugel. The O Line hasn't been prepared for trickeration; when it's third and one, they want to run the damn ball.

If he doesn't keep Saunders I think he still needs someone who can serve as his offensive succesor, so to speak.

it worked for Brian Billick. I am expecting much in the off season. Nobody entertains like the Skins in the summer

I think Saunders won't be back next year. Williams has proven that he can bring success to our D.C. defense, but Saunders has just been all over the board with his playcalling this year and not in a good way.

If the T. Friend article has any validity then GW or some of his staff might be gone. We do seem to have too many coaches on O though.
I wonder if Gibbs will do the unthinkable & let his old guys go? As someone pointed out in another thread, saunders might want "his" guys in here to run his O. |

I think we'll see some changes among the defensive assistants, but I really doubt Williams will go.

Re: Tony McGee Falcons Reaction!
I dont see why Williams would be let go. He has had a top defensive unit in 2 of the 3 years here. To his defense, Springs was out, Preloiu (how ever its spelled) was out. Arch wasn't what was expected and Carter struggled early. Griffin has been in and out. I believe he stays. Saunders would be my guess as the biggest head that rolls. He just doesn't mesh with the way Joe wants his team to run. I am starting to wonder who's idea it was to bring him in. Was there some pressure from Dan?? I was thinking in the beginning Joe wanted him here, but some of the things Joe has said, just sounds like he wants Redskin football and no way shape or form does Al's system conform to that.
My question about the impact player : yes we need a CB and D-lineman, but what about an impact player at MLB?? I think they will go with the best D-lineman available, but I just think we need a stud at MLB. |

Re: Tony McGee Falcons Reaction!
I hope to God we keep saunders around, we're gonna need his offensive genius if our defense doesnt pick it up in the near future. I gaurantee if we give saunders another year with the same QB and O-line that he will succeed. Greg Williams just needs to stop making personnel decisions and the defense will shape up.

I'm really hopeful Rocky comes on next year. It's really mind boggling that a second round draft pick has yet to crack the line up for any significant playing time. I just can't phathom what that's about. And honestly, I don't think it's entirely Rocky's fault either. You know, we talk a lot about a stud here and a stud there....I don't buy that. What we really need is to fill some holes here and there, and everyone else just step their game up. We don't have a talent problem, we lack intensity. |

You really don't think we have a talent problem?

Re: Tony McGee Falcons Reaction!
We need to inject some more youthful playmakers into this D, but I don't see the need for any major restructuring.

Re: Tony McGee Falcons Reaction!
Restructuring would be a bad move, but we definitely don't currently have enough defensive talent to make the playoffs
