Offseason Coaching Carousel
We were all holding our breath last year hoping Greg Williams would not take a head coaching vacancy in the offeseason. Well what are the chances that another team would want Greg Williams now? Or is there a pact with Williams that basically makes him head coach once Gibbs moves to Preisdent full time / leaves the Redskins?
If this happens does Saunders stay around? I would think the following would occur but correct me if I am wrong: If Gibbs either leaves the Redskins or becomes full time President but not coach the followng would occur: 1.) Greg Williams becomes head coach 2.) Greg Blatch becomes the Defensive Coordinator 3.) Al Saunders takes the first head coaching oppotunity and is outta here - I think some team will want the guy for what he did in KC and he wants to be a head coach. 4.) Joe Bugel retires since Gibbs is not a full time coach anymore 5.) Don Breaux retires since Gibbs is not a full time coach anymore 6.) Danny Smith remains special teams coach 7.) Ernest Byner remains running backs coach 8.) Lazor remains quarterbacks coach - for Campbell sake please keep Lazor around. 9.) Jackson remains secondaries coach - although I can see the Redskins making him a scapegoat. 10.) Redskins bring in a big name offensive coordinator - someone of Greg Williams choosing - or Greg will at least be a major part of that decision. 11.) Vinny Cerrato will remain director of player personelle - this is where the Redskins will fail in the long run of refusing to bring in a professional GM. Am I on in these coaching changes or off base? If Saunders leaves who would you bring in as your new Offensive Coordinator? Also if Danny woke up one morning and decided on bringing in a GM are there any availble that you think the Skins should hire? |

Re: Offseason Coaching Carousel
I don't see GW leaving after the season. He's not the hot property he was last year at this time. Plus he would be turning away a nice paycheck here if he leaves. There's no way another team offers him anything near what he's getting here.

There is no way GW becomes head coach. In fact he may be the fall guy for what has happened this season.

Re: Offseason Coaching Carousel
We know that Coy is here due to overt nepotism, but who the hell is Bob Saunders? Associate Junior Assistant Coach of Special Teams? With a coaching roster almost as big as the players roster, there are just too many cooks in the kitchen.

Re: Offseason Coaching Carousel
Gibbs preaches consistency, no way all these changes are made

Re: Offseason Coaching Carousel
Williams will take this job when Gibbs is gone. Unless he doesn't want it. In which case, Jeff Fisher is our man.
(Above said assuming Gibbs steps down after this season, not saying that will happen, but staying consistent with the thread.

Re: Offseason Coaching Carousel
I think there is a much better chance of Williams being gone at the end of this season than Gibbs.

Re: Offseason Coaching Carousel
I've always been a huge proponent of bringing Russ Grimm back. I'll tell you what though, if Saunders does leave then don't be surprised if you see Associate Head Coach Offense (or even head coach depending on the situation) Mike Martz.

Re: Offseason Coaching Carousel
Why would Russ Grimm want to come back to this mess when he is likely to get the Steeler job if Cowher leaves at the end of the season?

Re: Offseason Coaching Carousel
Ken Whisenhunt is all but assured of succeeding Cowher in Pittsburgh. I think Grimm would love the chance to coach here, especially if he was head coach. But I think it'd be great just to have him here as an OC, learning under Gibbs for a year or two then taking over.

Re: Offseason Coaching Carousel
gibbs becoming the team president might be the worst possible outcome, since his strength is actually coaching players and his weakness (by far) is player acquisitions .
If gibbs does step back, i think we'll be playing for fisher or cowher before looking at either GW or saunders. |

Re: Offseason Coaching Carousel
What will be interesing is if Parcells steps down, because then Jerry Jones will definitely go after Fisher I'm sure.
