The Official Thank You Mark Brunell Thread

Although I have frequently criticized Mark Brunell (in 2004, 2005, and 2006) and certainly agree with Gibbs' decision to bench him, I just want to thank Mark Brunell for his efforts. Mark Brunell helped get this team our first playoff berth and victory since 1999. Although Mark Brunell wasn't the sole reason for our team's victories last season, he certainly contributed.

I also want to thank Brunell for being eternally classy. Brunell did not whine, at least publicly, about his benching in 2004 or 2006. Brunell did not refuse to tutor Jason Campbell when we drafted him. Brunell has never thrown anyone under the bus to justify the team's struggles. Brunell has always shown class, even when fans did not show him similar respect at FedEx Field.

So, in sum, thanks Mark for your efforts and class. Although you're days as the Redskins starting quarterback are likely over, you've had a great career.

(Yes I am pretending that Mark will actually see this).

Nice. I heartily agree.

Mark isn't flying off to Tokyo or anything. He's not being "sent down" to NFL Europe.

I don't think we've seen the last of #8 this year. Gibbs just won't have it.

You're a bold man for starting this thread SGG. I agree with the intent but I know there is a lot of "F You Brunell" sentiment out there

I think he's done.

I'd like to say thanks for the best dallas monday night game I've ever seen. You'll always be remembered in a positive light here, as long as gibbs doesn't yank Campbell the first time he throws a pick and puts you back in there to stink it up some more.

Peace!

SGG, I think you pretty much stated what I would have said as well. Mark has been a class act, and I truly believe he gave it his all on the field. I think he's served as a good mentor to Jason Campbell.

One thing I have to thank Mark Brunell (and Santana Moss) for is week two 2005 season against Dallas! Nuff said!

Dude, screw effort and class...that shit is for the birds....seriously. We need football players. Mark couldn't cut in Jacksonville and he didn't here either.

Frankly, I hope Collins is the number two next year behind JC. Enough of this gushing over Brunell.

Mark, you are a class act. You are tough as nails and you play your guts out and do what is asked of you. When you screw up, you admit that you screwed up - no excuses. You were/are a true leader. I’m sorry that you didn’t reach the Superbowl with the Skins. I really wanted that for you because I think you deserve it. Thank you for the Brunell to Moss memories. They are some of the best memories we Skins fans will ever have.

I think there was a lot of "F You Brunell" sentiment out there while he was the starter. I was pissed about Brunell's performance, but no one, not even former Ramsey-fans, can doubt that he's been classy, helped get us to a playoff victory, and has had a great career.

I guess you so readily dismiss class and effort because you, as a Redskins fan, haven't had to deal with T.O. or Randy Moss. I know a lot of Vikings and Eagles fans who think class and effort are things you pay a premium for.

By the way, I haven't been gushing over Brunell, I'm just giving the man some thanks while recognizing the need to move on.

Thanks Mark for leading us back against Dallas in Sept05. Despite your limitations as a QB, you were and are a class act on and off the field. Apologies to you and your family for some of the harsh things that have been said about you and your abilities at a player. Look forward to your support for Campbell.

No, I've just had it with the class act speech every where I turn. I'm tired of the this guy has heart and he's a class act...so what.

T.O. and Moss are at the other end of the pendulum, by the way.

I might add, I think I could be one helluva class act for $43 million.

There are a lot of players who could not. Class, effort, and all those other intangibles mean a lot to team chemistry. Thus, Gibbs has always emphasized such characteristics. Classy and effort-guys are becoming a rarer breed in the NFL and I value guys who show both class and effort.

I guess we differ; we both value results (W v. L) above everything else, I just think class and effort help teams get those all-important Ws. Did Brunell's class deliver us victories? Nope, but I value them nonetheless and think they certainly helped.
