Gibbs: Duckett Will Carry on Short Yardage

Comcast is reporting that Gibbs has decided to use T.J. Duckett on short-yardage situations. Has anyone heard anything about this? If it's true, what does this mean for Cartwright? We only carry 3 backs on gameday.

Re: Gibbs: Duckett Will Carry on Short Yardage

I heard it from Gibbs' mouth on his weekly radio show, that he was considering using Duckett in short yardage situations. I guess that means Rock will be a special teamer for the most part now, but it seems like that's all he's done for the last few games anyway.

Last week, we only carried three wide receivers. The roster is fluid - if the coach thinks carrying four backs will help us win, then by all means we should do it.

Re: Gibbs: Duckett Will Carry on Short Yardage

Dont know, but we need Rock in for kick returns more than we need Duckett for short yardage. We can use Sellers for that.

I love Gibbs all the sudden realizes that maybe he should use Duckett. But at mentioned, how is he gonna do it? Maybe he can put him on the roster as a different position, and play him as a back, if that is even possible.

Obviously CP and Betts arent going anywhere. So the question is who to not dress, Rock or Sellers. I think Sellers would not dress, bc we need Rock for special teams.

I think we'll keep one less TE. Cartwright is a beast on teams.

TJ has dressed out the last 2 games I believe, so we've had 4. Last week it was easy due to wr injuries (only had 3), this week I don't know who will sit.

No Way!! Sellers is THE starting fullback. Betts or TJ are not going to play fb.

Hope it's true, and if it is, THANK EFFING GOD.

Gee, our Hall of Fame coach may have finally figured out that there may be a reason why TJ Duckett rushed for 11 TDs in 2003, 8 TDs in 2004 (in 13 games), and another 8 TDs in 2005 (in 14 games).

He sure as hell wasn't breaking long TD runs, that's for sure Coach!

We need Sellers way more for special teams coverage and lead blocking. If it came to it, you could have Thrash return the kicks.

Aside from the TD in Dallas, Rock hasn't done anything special.

But I think TMC is right, you probably dress one less TE.

Re: Gibbs: Duckett Will Carry on Short Yardage

I don't think Gibbs wants to activate 4 backs but he can justify it. If Moss plays this week that would be 4 WR so somebody else would have to sit. Could be Yoder. Could be someone on defense.

I know who I would de-activate but that ain't gonna happen. (It's Arch, as if there were any doubt)

My guess would be one less defensive lineman. Montgomery or Evans. Wasn't Evans active last week?" When I realized we still had him I thought, "Why the hell is Carter even playing?"

I really believe that TJ’s signing was the final blow to team chemistry before the season. Remember rock’s reaction? I think Gibbs had to show some loyalty to Rock & Betts to keep things cool. That & someone on Comcast said TJ was slow to learn the O.

Rock will never carry the ball for the Redskins again.. Remember the fumble in the Texans game? That was the final straw. He'll be a special teamer only. It baffles me why Duckett has been tied to the sidelines, especially last week on the 1st drive. Betts can catch the ball alright, but I don't think he's anything special at all.. A Portis/Duckett backfield would be more effective.

Re: Gibbs: Duckett Will Carry on Short Yardage

This move should kill any prospect of me getting any TDs from Portis unless he runs for long TDs.
